Valium alternatives

So while in hospital for my barrage of tests etc I was taking high doses of slow K and slow Mag morning and night (magnesium and potassium) and Thiamine (high dose in the morning) and Valium in the morning and at night. The supplements I’ll get a clearer picture of from my nephrologist that originally prescribed it and whether or not I should stay on it and how much - obviously no issues there.

The Valium was like magic (of course) the first time since I was about 11 that I slept right through the night and had absolutely no problem falling asleep.

BUT I know my physician will take me off it now because I was on it for a week twice a day and my fatty liver is caused by alcohol amongst other things so obviously I do not want to start messing about with diazepams.

I don’t have a problem with drugs at all (go figure) I even have a box of unopened Urbanol at home that was prescribed by my original doctor which I have not touched just in case. That’s one horse I’m not willing to saddle even by accident.

One of the many reasons I had for drinking was sleep. I really really struggle and, no, CBT alone will not help and neither will Stillnox or Ivedal or any of those because heaven help us they make me loopy.

Long question short: Is there an alternative to valium that physicians could prescribe? What helps you sleep?

Hi...when I was discharged from a month stay in hospital - alcohol related liver disease with all the symptoms. i was put on Mirtazapine to help with sleep and appetite, as i wasn't eating or sleeping. It really helped and I would sleep 10-12 hours. (I was also struggling with mood, as i was given 2 weeks to live at one point, so it helped there too) . X

Hi J,Please please stop the Valium before you become addicted. Because of all the problems I had post liver transplant they put me on xanax. And my Psychiatric NP continued to prescribe it for me for 5 years. Only when I switched to a new psychiatrist did I find out not only the extent of damage it has already done, but now I'm so addicted they can't wean me off. By brain doesn't work right without it anymore. I wish someone had told me all this before it was too late. That said, I am prescribed trazadone 50mg for sleep. Please be safe.

Hi, i was only on it for two weeks basically, and as I said don’t want to saddle that horse so I was looking for alternatives but just for sleep.
