elevated BP in 26 year old male

my son recently had an appointment with his gastroenterologist. While there his BP was taken with a wrist BP machine his results were 151/90.. he was alarmed … Dr said nothing…. He was at this office a month ago and his BP was 135/83…. Dr said nothing. He is concerned… he is normal weight, exercises, eats fairly well. His recent bloodwork all came back fine. He and his wife just had a baby boy 3 weeks ago.

He went home from appointment and has taken BP several times in last couple days … always in 140’s systolic and 80’s diastolic…. Any suggestions?

I also have high blood pressure .. He has to change the way he eats … Number one is to lay off of the salt … and snacks especially at night .. drink plenty of water … and keep exercising! Try not to let anything stress him out …

Peter, in a video in YT, I saw a graph showing how the BP changes during 24 hours (no data who the patient was or how old etc. , but aimed to demonstrate how irregularly irregular both values, upper and lower, are). It is not in English, so I tried, without success, to copy-paste this graph, just to let people know that once measured value means nothing, as well as repeated measured values - there are spikes and valleys on the graph, demonstrating only that BP permanently changes and that it can not be caught, nor by the head, nor by the tail (we say it like this in my language, lol). You can find it under:

Regards!

Peter

Like me he may be allergic to any caffeine, try giving it up for a week and keep measuring BP in case it makes a difference, very good luck.

Those figures are pretty high for such a young guy however anxiety greatly affects bp readings as you probably know.If he is concerned he should have a chat with his GP and see what is suggested.I had a 24 hour bp check to check that my bp was controlled by the meds I'm on. ( mine was much higher than your sons before meds mind you)It was very reassuring.Good luck with this.

yes..life style changes...NO salt, one drink a day, one coffee a day...deep breathing exercise to relax...consciously manage the stress that we all accummulate ...at whatever age...drive the worry demons out of the mind and break out in a fake smile and howling laughter...of curse in the privacy of your own home !!..it can work
