Tips for a clean and clear blood test
Dear All, I'm asking you as I know you will have answers. I have a blood test arranged, not for Thyroid, I know those does and don'ts (thanks to HealthUnlocked). This test is to differentiate between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. I can go at a time I want, would it be best first thing, lunchtime

Diabetes, pre-diabetes and a low carb diet
We bang on about cutting carbs when on pred and I thought you might be interested in this article about extremely low carb diets and reversing diabetes and weight gain. It isn't in pred patients but it does show how going low carb works and that it is sustainable on a relatively low income. The only

ONE - Prednisolone
I was diagnosed with the above around 9 months ago. I believe this was caused by Vivid as I was perfectly healthy before. I have been tapering down a couple of times then it seems to get worse and I'm back on it. However intelligent to back on although my doc said my blood test was a bit high and I

It seems majorly Fatty lever is responsible for type-2 diabetes
Fatty lever causes insulin resistance and subsequent type-2 diabetes… .Excess fatty acids, the production of which is induced by lipogenesis and fatty acid synthesis, as well as oxidated fatty acids, circulate in peripheral tissues, including liver and adipose tissue, where they accumulate, resulting

I was diagnosed with GCA in November and was started on 40mg of prednisone.
I experienced really bad steroid induced diabetes which seems a bit more in control now. I am currently down to 8mg of Prednisone, then 120mg of Glyclazide and 500mg of Metformin for the diabetes In the last few days I have felt very depressed and anxious. I am not sure if this is related to my

Daily multivitamins do not help people live longer, major study finds
The taking of general multivitamins has long been questioned here on this forum. The article specifically identifies iron: Meanwhile iron, which is added to many multivitamins, can lead to iron overload and raise the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and dementia. I think we'd also advocate

Eating Nuts for Heart Health
If you are interested in eating nuts to improve your health, look up each one to see what vitamins or minerals it will supply and how many you should eat daily. It's important that nuts are 'really well chewed' and if you do that it will not effect pockets that may have formed in the bowel due to

Reducing steroids and adrenal symptoms
I’ve recently experienced symptoms which made me think of Pred-induced diabetes. In particular, my metabolism does not seem to adjust properly to food, with post-prandial dips and especially waking up at 3-4am with uncomfortable overheating. But my HbA1c measurement remains around 41, which is just

COVID between cycles and impact on egg quality ... Any knowledge/ experience?
Hey all - so I was meant to start my next cycle of IVF in 3 weeks time. I have been so healthy; haven't caught a cold or even a sniffle for the past 12 months but have somehow managed to pick up COVID from somewhere. I've had 3 vaccines and COVID once before but am still testing very positive 6 days

Cholesterol and CLL
Hoping for some information from the wise ones here - back in January my GP said she wanted to start me on a statin as my cholesterol was high. I said I preferred to try to bring it down myself rather than with medication (and my intent here is not to start a debate on statins - I just prefer a natural

Low carbs
Im 2 years in on my PMR journey with a really bad flare last July. Which took me back to the beginning. After reading on here about eating a low carb diet. I got out my 800 fast keto book and started cooking from it. Where I don’t stick to 800 I do try to be no more than 1,200 calories. And no more

Nutrition advice for pred users
I came across this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9080102/
Nutritional recommendations for patients undergoing prolonged glucocorticoid therapy
I do wonder if there should be a leaflet on nutrition that docs hand out when they start us on high doses of daily pred (including reducing

Type II Diabetes Research
I am looking to understand and find out more about Type II Diabetes. I was wondering if there happen to be any current trials, studies, or research programs going on. I wish to learn more. I understand the workings of the CRTC2 gene and would like to understand the connection between sugar cravings
