If you are testing normal, even the inflamamtory markers, but you have PMR symptoms, then a pred trial should be in order. If everything else is ruled out then a good and rapid response (a few hours to a few days) to moderate dose of pred (15-20 mg usually) can be the diagnostic key needed to confirm PMR. Up to 20% of people do not have raised ESR or CRP when they have PMR.
It is your CRP (reactive protein) and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) figures that you need to check. Although not everyone has raised levels as the others have mentioned.
