Hi

Result from recent Bloods only thing that stood out

Serum Cholesterol 5.7

Serum Triglycerides 3.34

Everything else within range even Serum C Protein 0.9

So do I now do I go on Pred although I suspect my GP will not prescribe at the moment due to results ?

And thanks for all the advise .

🙂

If you are testing normal, even the inflamamtory markers, but you have PMR symptoms, then a pred trial should be in order. If everything else is ruled out then a good and rapid response (a few hours to a few days) to moderate dose of pred (15-20 mg usually) can be the diagnostic key needed to confirm PMR. Up to 20% of people do not have raised ESR or CRP when they have PMR.

I was diagnosed with PMR in March after I had a test depo injection which reduced my symptoms dramatically

Thanks

It is your CRP (reactive protein) and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) figures that you need to check. Although not everyone has raised levels as the others have mentioned.

Pred can raise cholesterol levels - but in PMR they have no relevance, It is inflammatory levels, ESR and CRP that have any significance.
