New to gluten free
Hi I've just started a gluten free diet as a trial, not diagnosed celiac, and wondered how long it takes to notice a difference and also how long I would need to be on it to do a gluten challenge. I have hypothyroidism and was diagnosed with CFS last year and my occupational health doctor suggested

Are you classed as coeliac if you have an intolerance to barley but not wheat?
Have recently found out that I have an intolerance to barley and millet but not wheat and am wondering if I should now follow a gluten free diet or should I just literally avoid barley? Sorry if it's a stupid question but I can't seem to find the answer easily.

What are the best books that have helped you manage your Coeliac health & stick to a strict gluten free diet since diagnosis?
Has it been a health book, recipe book, online health book? What would you recommend for Newbie Coeliacs?

Difficult diagnosis
Hi ,it's been a while since I asked a question on this site and for the last year it was difficult to confirm my diagnosis. Last year I had an endoscopy due to constant nausea, stomach ache and feeling generally unwell. I had had these symptoms for a few years. Biopsy showed partial villus atrophy, all

My story and a question re meds.
Hi Everyone, I thought I would share my story and there is a small question at the end :-) I was diagnosed hypothyroid last year by my GP, who is one of the rare ones that treat the symptoms not the numbers. I had been ill or at least 4 years and undergone lots of tests, including invasive tests

Half Way There!...... and feeling good :)
So, I’m half way there! Tonight I will tackle run 1 of week 5! I can honestly say that I never thought I would make it this far, and even more so to be enjoying the sense of freedom and ‘me time’ and running so much. Ok, it’s a snails pace at the moment and I see real runners running much faster but

Is the DBS operation painful?
I am scheduled for the DBS operation in Dallas on 4/24/2013. My neurosurgeon says I will be awake but will have a local anesthetic. Can anyone who has undergone the procedure let me know how traumatic it might be. I am 67 years old and a bit nervous about the prospect of the drilling into my skull. Thanks

DBS - does it wind back the movement clock??
On 17th April I'm having DBS. My neurosurgen, says an average result is to straight line my 'on periods' but he expects a significant result which by his definition is winding the movement clock back to when I first started taking levadopa. For me that was 10 years ago. For those of you who have had

Car accident and DBS
I met with my Parkinson's Movement Specialist Wednesday. I received a DBS "makeover" as Dr. Jill reprogrammed me. She tried different settings and found what works for me. Since the car accident in January, I have been sluggish, taking naps in mid morning and after 3pm daily. The reprogramming has helped

Car accident 7 months after having successful DBS surgery
I had a very successful DBS surgery in June, 2012. It really improved my mobility and quality of life. Then on January 16 a SUV pulled out in front of our 1997 GEO Metro. My wife was going 35mph. The collision totaled our GEO. the SUV was cited. We both were checked out and released from the ER. My DBS

I progress....
One thing I have learned is patience, yesterday I spoke to a flooring specialist who knew what I was talking about. The job I was intimidated to do at a Primary school involved chemicals and a process. I have now found out after seven years that I have a "Formaldehyde Allergy" also that the method used
