Trying gluten free diet have bloated up immediately following gluten free crisps does it mean not coeliac or far too soon to tell.

It may also mean the crisps had some codex wheat at 20 ppm on them and you reacted to that. To start going GF it is best to only eat naturally GF foods such as fruit, veg, meat, fish, rice, quinoa, pulses and then to add in slowly the processed GF foods such as you find on the GF shelves in the supermarket. In that way you can see which you can tolerate and which you have a problem with.

Depends on what ingredients, I cannot tolerate any crisps with milk eg. kettle chips cheese and onion ( which state on the packet no gluten containing ingredients) as they contain milk, my stomach blows up immediately. I have had a lactose intolerance test which came back negative but my specialist said if I suffer symptoms could be casein problem therefore I avoid dairy and only eat salted crisps.

Hi anne. I also have reacted to "gluten-free" crisps. It was a while ago now and I don't remember which brand it was. I just remember it was one of the "posher" chunky cut named brands I bought from Morrison's. I think in my case it could have been the maltodextrin - it was made from barley. The official line is barley maltodextrin is so processed that all the gluten is taken out, but I am still not sure - so won't be buying them again.

Have you tried Cofresh's gluten free lentil crisps yet? You can get them from a health food store for approx 75p per bag and they are really yummy! Don't confuse them with the ones you can buy in the Indian section in some supermarkets - those ones are made in a factory handling wheat but seem to be made by the same company.

As I said in my other post to you, often it's trial and error...

Anne-gussy as your previous post implies you haven't been diagnosed as a Coeliac yet. Therefore I'd recommend you do NOT go on a gluten free diet until your Dr advises you to. A gluten free diet is not healthy for people unless there is a strong medical reason to do so - gluten free diets are free from many vitamins and minerals that gluten foods are fortified with.

How long do you have to wait until your results?

Most mainstream brands of crisps contain milk so your reaction *may* be a reaction to milk.

Equally, most crisps are made in factories where they also use gluten and milk so cross-contaminationmay be a possibility.
