Electrodes are planted in the brain to stimulate production of dopamine. Usually done in more advanced stages of PD although I believe the trend is for earlier intervention.

I suggest that you go on line(internet) and type in DBS. I did and found the information from Wikipedia to be a good source of information. if you copy it , it's only 8 pages.

Also, if you search the tags on the home page of this blog site, you will find many personal stories. Go for the Google overview first though.

The Wikipedia information is pretty good. It's quite long though. This is DBS in a nutshell

"DBS- deep brain stimulation. Involves the insertion of an electrode connected to a pulse generator (similar to a pacemaker) into certain areas of the brain associated with PD symptoms. Higher success rate with a lower incidence of adverse effects. It is reversible and can be performed bilaterally."

There's a bit more information on this page - theparkinsonhub.com/daily-l...

It sounds like it has quite a high level of effectiveness when it comes to treatment - however, it's quite invasive.
