Haemoglobin
Had my check up 2 weeks ago and the WBC was 56 and haemoglobin 12. The Dr said 12 is low. I was disappointed as I have been taking iron tablets for a year. Is 12 very poor result or not too bad? Is anyone else only 12?

A hopeful new article proposing that adding T3 to thyroid treatment is the way to go!
Janie Bowthorpe's observations on an interesting article by Dr. Wilmar Wiersinga that came out this year in the journal Nature Reviews Endocrinology titled “Paradigm shifts in thyroid hormone replacement therapies for hypothyroidism.” http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/2014/03/19/hopeful-new-article-proposing-adding-t3

TSH 4.61 (0.4 - 4.0) under medicating!
After everyone's help and realising that I was being under medicated following a recent blood test, I have now been back to see the Doc. I thought you would like to know that he has upped my thyroxine by 25mg to 150mg and prescribed ferrous sulphate as my ferritin levels were a measly 16 ug/L (25-300

Blood tests requested by gp included transferrin saturation index
Had blood tests today. Managed to get gp to do b12, ferritin and folate but noticed she had requested a transferrin saturation index. Has any one else had this? What's it for? On 150mcg of levothyroxine after tt and still feeling awful. In fact I think I'm getting worse. Hoping these tests show something

One step forward, lets hope it's not two back
Hi All, well finally got to see GP to see what's going on with my bloods etc. Had to set the alarm for the crack of dawn to call for an appointment as the alternative was a pre-booked one 25 days ahead! Is it normal to have blue lips?
Hi all, I have mild raynauds and hypothyroidism. On most days my lips (especially the top lip) turn blue randomly throughout the day. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm hot/cold or whatever... Several people point it out to me all the time. So are blue lips like this a normal symptom of raynauds?

Blood test results: low MCHC to high MCHC? Anaemia?
I had some tests done in Dec and was comparing them to older test results from Jan. In Jan 13 I had low MCHC and in Dec I had high MCHC. Does this indicate anaemia? I've included some other tests (folate, b12 etc) either because they were out of range/near the end of the range or because I think it

Some Good News!
Thanks to the advice given by members of this forum went back to my GP - well actually another GP in the practice who I've never seen before. He was recommended by friends as someone who listens, and bingo! Agreed, upon listening to my symptoms, to test for vit D, B12, folate, ferritin, iron, plus

Ever-changing bloods
Hi All, Been getting odd blood results for the past few months. ESA/CRP low as ever but first was told I had low white cell count and ,although I had enough platelets, they didn't think they were quite doing what they should. Hence the pretty patterns of bruising that crop up when I as much as look

Apparently "I'm one of those".... I don't believe in the "this is what you should eat" fairy .... Swedish meat balls!
You know... one of those weird mutant-types that looks at labels, avoids bread, pop, fluoride toothpaste, embraces sunshine to the point of daring to go outside without wearing sunscreen (shock horror!) thinks there's nothing wrong with butter, and likes liver & onions! Hubby always had bellyache, so

Low iron and my thyroid
I am on 200mg of levo and after a fight I finally got my iron level tested it came back at 8 against a range of 15 - 300 but he said they treat anything below 40 (bit confused as the range is 15 - 300 so that would say 15 was wiithin range but he definitely said they treat below 40 - I made him write

Should I stop taking my iron before a blood test
Hi I have been taking Iron tablets prescribed by my GP for low iron for a couple of months. She now wants to test again and I have booked a blood test for 7th Feb. Do I carry on taking them or do I need to stop them to get a true result? My folate was also low in range and I have been taking a B

Can anyone help me regarding B12?
I've had a load of blood tests done privately - and I'm even more confused now than I was before. I'll be posting some more questions once I've got my head round it all, but I just wanted to see if anyone can help me with this query about vitamin B12. As background, I was diagnosed with ME/chronic

Results (or some) have come back - any advice?
Hello I am seeing my GP next week to discuss some results she has had back from the hospital lab, and the ones I had done privately (she doesn't know yet) Private results are: Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 149.8 IU/ml <60 negative 60-100 equivocal >100 positive TSH

Ferritin levels and iron tablets
I was diagnosed with Hashimotos a couple of months ago and now on levothyroxine. Whilst the GP is monitoring my levels of thyroid, they haven't bothered with other blood tests. I am extremely tired and very much on waking, i find it almost impossible to wake up! I know it might be adrenal issues and

Section of article that talks about "iron withholding" by our bodies in an effort to kill bacteria. Could this lead to RLS?

Can anyone decipher active B12 results?
Hello all. I have paid privately to have blood tests done as GP and I have differing views. I have seen a private GP for B12 injections, but now manage on sublingual tablets as I don't have a never ending pot of money. Result says Active B12 less than 68, but there are no reference ranges or units

Anaemia and endless tests for the cause
Has anyone else had to undergo five progressively invasive, separate tests for colo-rectal (bowel) cancer just because they have been diagnosed with anaemia? It will have been five months of investigations and worry before I get the final decision (fingers crossed for the all-clear but I can't help getting
