LDL test
Anyone struggled to get a blood test with an LDL result? My GP only seems to be able to get one which gives non HDL which is apparently not the same. Cardiologist asking for LDL result and can't understand why I can't get it.

Statins and Malcolm Kendrick's: The Great Cholestrol Con!
I saw Helvella's post regarding the article in the Guardian on NHS checks; I did post this elsewhere, but I guess would only be visible to folk following the original post, so I thought it may be helpful to post separately. Some on here may well be aware of this work: The work of Malcolm Kendrick

Disrupted sleep with increased T4
Hello dear Thyroid UK, I had thyroid cancer in August 2021 with part of my thyroid and a parathyroid removed. Since then, I've been trying to get an ideal dose of Levothyroxine T4. I did take a very low dose of T3 (Cytomel) briefly. I felt great alert-wise but experienced headaches, nausea and anxiety

PBC causing high cholesterol?
My cholesterol level has gone up and I am wondering if it is due to my PBC. I know there are lots of causes of high cholesterol but I read in online research that PBC can cause this. Has anyone else had this and if so, did your doctor put you on a statin or cholesterol lowering medication? Thank you

Early 50s male, healthy till hypothyroidism my first few months experience of treatment
I don't usually share info on the internet, but as a lot of material out there is aimed at women or Americans (I mean no offence to either!) I thought I'd stay my experience so far. Diagnosis, what does it all mean, and treatment/first medications. DIAGNOSIS Late 2022 I saw a nurse as I was taking longer

Are statins essential if you are suffering from AF and/or past strokes? And how much is 'good'?
Just seeking some views on what constitutes the 'correct' level of statins to take in various situations. I have been taking 10 mg of simvastatine for six months and found this is no problem for me and it has marginally reduced what was a very low LDL cholesterol level in the first place. But my doctor

How long trouble-free?
I had NSTEMI in March 2022 (identified through raised troponin of 42). It was completely unexpected. Except for high cholesterol (Total 6.9, LDL 4.9, HDL 1.3,), none of the risk factors were applicable. There were no symptoms until one day I experienced pain on exertion. I was referred to a cardiologist

Cholesterol again
My latest FBC (not specifically to look at thyroid) showed high cholesterol. I haven't been taking my thyroid meds religiously as I usually do and my TSH has gone up. So, I will get on the case. I am on 75mg which is usually more than enough to keep my TSH around 1.5. However, my GP was reluctant

Recent TSH reading came back at 0.02..is this as bad as the GP surgery pharmacist suggests??
Hope this makes sense. Around September last year amongst usual symptoms of Carpal tunnel, IBS, tiredness, aches, weight gain etc I developed a new issue. Initially I thought I'd damaged my left shoulder rotator cuff..I couldn't remember damaging it but I suddenly couldn't raise my left arm past shoulder

The association between serum lipid profile and the prostate cancer risk and aggressiveness
New study from Korea [1]. "Men who underwent prostate biopsy between January 2005 and December 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. High Ferritin & more weird symptoms
Hello dear people, A month ago I was having weird heart-ish chest pain, but the EKGs and ER bloodwork did not indicate heart problems, so I've been trying to figure out what's going on. I got two rounds of blood work. Almost everything is in range, but notably, my ferritin was high! 409 (range 15

Greetings
Hello all. I joined this forum today as my doctor has told me I need to get from 87kg, 13.7st, 191.8lb to 70kg. That is a loss of 17kg, 2.7st, 37.5lb. This is assuming my conversions are correct. Recently I was diagnosed with Diabetes T2, Metabolic Syndrome, and Multifactorial chylomicronemia syndrome

Statins
I have held off with statins for few years and have recently been having cholesterol drinks to try to lower level. My cholesterol level has fallen gradually but is still 6.2. I’ve just had a telephone consultation with hospital lipid dr and the genetic test they did which looks for one definite familial
