If one has serious side effects such as muscle cramps in lower back due to 5 mg tablet of atorvastatin what alternatives can be tried?
I was diagnosed with a high cholesterol (270) and was told to take lipitor 5 mg per day along with diet control. This drug gave me serious and debilitating back pain. I figured that with a lower dose (1/2 tablet a day to play interference to cholesterol synthesis) and tight diet control ( I am a strict

LIPID (Cholesterol) CLINICS, anyone?
Has anyone in the UK been to a "Lipid" Clinic. Would they know about the T4 connection to high cholesterol, or would I have to go armed ;-)

Friends According to the INTERHEART study report released in 2004 involving 52 countries and 30000 individuals, the single most important predictor of Myocardial Infarction (MI) is the ratio of two proteins in the blood - Apolipoprotein B ( ApoB in short ) & Apolipoprotein A-1 (ApoA-1) Myocardial Infarction

Cholesterol to HDL ratio = 6.63 Serum cholesterol = 5.7 mmol/L. HbA1c= 47. Do I need medication to reduce cholesterol?
Had a holiday from life style change for six weeks, away from home environment !, blood was taken for testing two weeks ago. Have an appointment with my GP to discuss high cholesterol. As far as I see this I do not need any medication to reduce cholesterol! Appreciate views and comments, thanks.

Hi, anyone who also got too low HDL-cholesterol?
I have tested my cholesterol a few times, but normally my HDL is too low. Most other cholesterol readings are okay. my GMP speculates it is due to my overweight(or rahter obesity), but i am just 35 years old. she has just recommended me to loose weight and exercise more.... Have you experienced something

For those who have been diagnosed with soft plaque...
What are you taking (both medication and natural supplements) to stabilise it? I was diagnosed with a 40% growth in January (when I was taken into hospital having, as it turns out, a major panic attack (which they thought was a cardiac event of some kind). My cholesterol was 7, so they put me on Lipitor

Over weight, low cholesterol
Have just taken my friend to the Dr's for a check up/results of blood test. She weighs over 15 stone, does no exercise at all, eats everything she should not eat, ie. cake, biscuits, bread, chips and snack food yet cholesterol was just over 3. Does any of this make sense when I've religiously stuck

Lipid Clinic Visit
Just come back from seeing my consultant. Cholesterol is fine at 4.6 and all the other cholesterol figures are fine. the only alteration to my medication is that he's upping my Ramipril 2.5mg to 5mg. Didn't ask him if it was ok to take 2 5mg ones till I get a new prescription, but I guess that's ok,

Hi I'm hypothyroid and due to this have high cholesterol much of which is LDL bad cholesterol. The doctor sent me to an Endocrinologist who because I couldn't tolerate the statins I'd been put on suggested using 5mg a week and trying to raise it, but even that small dose was knocking me for six I could

hi just a quick question, I was on 80mg astovastatin which gave me muscular pains in the hips and legs when I went to bed, this has been reduced to 30 mg and the pains have gone, but my cholesterol level has gone up from 3.6 to 4.7 should I be concerned. ( heart attack and stents fitted in aug 2012)

Has anyone with FH seen any (long term) improvement of their lipids following a LCHF diet?
Just wondering. I know there is a whole movement around saying sugar is bad, and fats are actually good for us. But those studies (and opinions) are based on 'normal' people, not those of us with a genetic inability to clear excess cholesterol out of our system. So I wondered if anyone has improved their
