Lipid Clinic Confusion (again!).
Today I had my lipid clinic appointment. I was nervous about this one as I have made a decision not to take any more statins. Long story about side effects and a family history of muscle disorder had finally convinced me that this is the right decision for me. I was sorry if I appeared hostile when I

Lipid clinic Hell!
The lipid clinic I attend is so completely dire! I arrived this morning after a cancellation appointment was offered to me over the phone on Wed. Appointment time 9.45. I got there for 9, as usually there is a massive que for bloods, today, no que and I went straight through. No organisation to be weighed

My visit to the lipid clinic
I went last Thursday to get the results of a blood test and the doctor confirmed that I do have Type 111 hyperlipidaemia. so he changed my medication form Bezalip mon which I have been on for years and relaced it with Fenofibrate and soluble aspirin (both once daily). My cholesterol figer has reduced

Well, following my disappointing appointment at the lipid clinic last month I have received a letter today from my usual consultant who is not happy with my latest blood results which shows my total cholesterol level has crept up to 7.2 and he wants to see me himself on 22nd August. Drugs advice for Type III Hyperlipoproteinaemia.
I have recently been diagnosed with the above after genetic testing (I am 51 year old female.) I am otherwise fit, slim and healthy but have ridiculous levels of cholesterol, though the ratios are good. I am reluctantly beginning to see the ned for medication and discussions are beginning. The possibilities

start of Pravastatin 10mg - not good!
After a fantastic and relaxing holiday, I thought I would bite the bullet and go back to my GP to see if we can start again on lowering my Cholesterol. I started 10mg of Pravastatin at 10pm last night. 4am this morning my knees, thighs and fingers were aching terribly, it is so bad that you just do

How did you get referred to a lipid clinic?
I'm breaking in a new GP ;-) and he definitely won't refer before my notes arrive from the last GP and I feel like he's going to be reluctant even then. The last GP never referred me - I was referred when I saw a locum after 5 years of increasing problems while taking Atorvastatin. So, how did you get

Exercise Treadmill Test
When I went for my last lipid assessment, I was advised to take the ETT which I am doing next Monday pending my next clinic appointment in early August. They will then tell me my cholesterol type and prescribe the correct medication. I was last diagnosed 25 years ago with hyperlipidaemia and am taking

Lipid Clinic Appointment
Had my most disappointing lipid clinic appointment in 16 years of attending. Saw a different consultant from the usual ones. When I raised concerns about angina he said "You are a 46 year old woman who doesn't smoke. I can confidently say you do not have heart disease and I am a heart doctor". How arrogant

high cholesterol and have a statin intolerance. What to do?
I have been visiting the Lipid clinic for years, it is always a different registrar and I always need to go through the same scenario. I cannot take any of the statins or ezetimes. I have FH and my cholesterol level at the present time is 11. My theory is that the statins target where I have Cholesterol

What to do Next.
The present state of my cholesterol saga is that I have been taking pravastatin 20mg for about six weeks. I have been OK with it, just a couple of very painful cramps and a bit of muscle twitching at night. Latest results are TC 6.5, LDL 4.1, trigs 0.84 and HDL 2. I know this will not be good enough

Cholesterol level
16 months ago I had a mild MI whilst trail mountaining biking in extreme cold. At the time my cholesterol was found to be 7.8 and I've had a blood test this week and it's down to 3.1 which is a reduction of 63%. You can imagine I'm over the moon!

I have FH and am in a quandary regarding diet following recent revelation that there's no link between high cholesterol & heart disease?!
I was diagnosed with familial hypercholestrolaemia (FH) when I was 4. I have never really done much to actively help my FH (as a child I was on a low fat diet and I've always been very sporty and fit) but as my levels are now very high (in the 8's I think, and I have a large fat deposit on my eyelid)

GP Confuses Me (again).
I went to the GP to get a prescription for pravastatin as ordered by the lipid clinic. I saw another GP in the practice who I could describe as being either realistic or anti statin. He described pravastatin as being the "cleanest statin", said he sees side effects all the time and totally believed the

W4R2 some good news...
It was doom & gloom on Saturday - completed W4R1 and spent the evening on the sofa with ice packs for company. My leg was on fire. Sunday not much better & going up & down stairs was not easy. Kept doing gentle stretches, toe taps etc Today decided to try W4R2 and made it - leg protesting a bit

Seen consultant for cholesterol results, levels down a little with diet but unsure what to do next. Any comments very welcome!
Results are : TC 7.5 (down 1.1), LDL 6.0 (down 0.9) and trigs 0.94 (down 0.56). Am pleased with this as stopped statins 3 months ago and wanted to see if I could make improvements with diet. (Lower carb, and following Portfolio diet to a certain extent). Consultant said this was pretty insignificant
