Any tips on raising HDL please? Thanks
Hi Vegan for almost 30 years now, age 52. Latest bloods. Total cholesterol 2.6 (<5) LDL 1.6 (<4) HDL 0.9 (>1.0) Triglycerides 0.6 (<1.8) Non HDL 2.25 Cholesterol/HDL ratio 3.0 (<5) So, all markers are ok except for HDL. I’ve read that vegans tend to have low HDL. Any tips to raise this please

Hi Folks, Recently I read an article about how intermittent fasting can help in losing weight on a website called The Health Journal, the article was well explanatory but my question is does anybody else tried it, and did they get any results?

Statins & Steroids
I’ve been advised to take statins due to high cholesterol levels of 7.0, Serum triglycerides 2.3, HDL 2.5, HDL ratio 2.8, LDL 3.4, non HDL 4.5. I’m reluctant to take more meds but I’m unclear of the meaning of all the results and if I should take statins or not. I’ve read some articles stating that

Herbal supplements for bronchiectasis
Would anyone have any knowledge or views on taking cardamom for lung health. I’m currently soaking 3 pods in warm water a day then squeezing out the seeds and drinking it as have heard this is an ancient herbal remedy to kill bacteria and help with inflammation. I also take echinacea daily but am wondering

Recommendations for a good selenium supplement?
That's not expensive? Selenomethionine is the type I'm after. I currently take Viridian which is around £8/9 for 30 capsules. It doesn't last long as I take 2 capsules daily. Previously I used solgar but I didn't feel it was as effective. There's so many different supplement sellers on Amazon now

Intermittent Fasting Could Put Type 2 Diabetes Patients into Remission
The prevention or management of type 2 diabetes by following a calorie-restricted diet is not a new idea. There are now dozens of doctors' Youtube presentations on how to reverse T2D by simply cutting the carbs. Now, research from China shows it could be possible for people with type 2 diabetes to

Opthalmic consultant recommended selium. Is this the dose I should be taking?
I am already taking 200 ug selium. Yesterday I had an eye check to rule out Ted. After being referred initially by Specsavers to New Medica then on to a hospital to see a consultant. The consultant said she was uncertain and will check again in 3 months but recommended 250 mgs selenium and System Balance

AF and Metformin
My dr just put me on Metformin for prediabetes (only matter of time before I get diabetes) do you think there is any correlation between AF treatments not working and almost being diabetic. I wasn’t treated for diabetes before last week.

Hello everyone
I really hope I’m doing this right and posting in the correct place. This is my first week of joining the weight loss support. For the first few weeks I’m going to follow a very low calorie sole source diet. It seems to be the only way I’ve had success in the past. Starting weight today 88kg Would

Metabolic surgery in Type-2 Diabetes..
I saw an article in Times of india, Mumbai edition dated 26.11.2022.. ( see below).. More information from internet- The term ileal interposition is the process of replacing the last part of the small intestine and the initial part with the most brief expression. This surgery functions on the principle

vitamin A test results
I’d be very grateful for an opinion on my vitamin A test results from Medichecks. (My GP told me ‘We don’t test vitamin A’, (!!!?), so I got private testing, though it’s not one of the cheaper tests. ) I know conversion of beta-carotene to retinol can be an issue in hypothyroidism, and although I have

New member with lots of questions about levo and NDT
Hi everyone, I just joined. My name is Anna and I am from Denmark. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto´s disease in December 2002, based on a high TSH, low FT4, and high anti-TPO and anti-TG levels. I was told it was very easy to manage, and that all I needed to do was to take levothyroxine until my TSH

Condition checking
I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (to be controlled by diet) in June. I had my eyes photo'd, my feet checked. I was given eating advice which you could sum up as follow the Eatwell Plate. I am in my 80s and have tried to follow that plate for as long as I 've known of its existence. So nothing is
