Condition checking

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (to be controlled by diet) in June. I had my eyes photo'd, my feet checked. I was given eating advice which you could sum up as follow the Eatwell Plate. I am in my 80s and have tried to follow that plate for as long as I 've known of its existence. So nothing is changed in my habits since June. I wonder if I ought to be checked that my diabetes is as it was?

Hi, you can always ask for a hba1c blood test to check but I think you should be having a review 6 months from diagnosis.

I got my type 2 into remission by doing the low carb high fat diet

I have to maintain low fat due to other health issues. I've been told to keep carbs low to keep weight down. I am in limbo!

keeping your carbs down will help a lot even with the low fat.

Has your doctor also suggested a low carb high protein diet?

Don’t panic too much, let’s wait for your next blood test to know how your Diabetes is doing. So, keep up with the diet and we will wait to see the trend. Then, some of our advice will make more sense.

Diabetes is a lifestyle disorder but not disease , Try changing the life style , Eat half the quantity of what eat . Too much of any thing whether it is food , exercise , rest ,sleep or ambition makes one sick and ill which slowly lead to complications. Going for insuline or medication makes the matters worst . Try to change your lifestyle and find the change that is brought in your health .

You are welcome to your own views, but I'm afraid I do not share them. Diabetes is an endocrinal disorder, not necessarily related to lifestyle although it can be a major factor with many T2 diabetes cases but not with T1 or probably not T1.5 either.

I prefer your opinion. I feel I am too old to change my life style. The food previously on my diet are now off limits to me, due to other health issues. I am proceeding by trial and error and occasionally suffering along the way.
