Would anyone have any knowledge or views on taking cardamom for lung health. I’m currently soaking 3 pods in warm water a day then squeezing out the seeds and drinking it as have heard this is an ancient herbal remedy to kill bacteria and help with inflammation. I also take echinacea daily but am wondering if this is good as have now read could be detrimental to take long term?
Thank you

Hi! I’ll try and remember to have a look into cardamom for you and see what I can turn up. Echinacea unfortunately is one of those supplements that got a lot of press but hasn’t shown benefit in testing: unfortunately a lot of supplements are in the same boat. There are some supplements which may actually be of interest but firstly you would need to check with your doctor as soon as possible, and it would help with making suggestions if you’re happy to say what medications you’re already on (but you absolutely do not have to say if you don’t want to!)
Thank you for this information. I’m not on any medication other than a 2 week course of Doxycycline at the moment for a flare up. Only recently diagnosed and was managing well with ACBT only until picked up this bug after Christmas.
I did not know that cardamom was anything other than a culinary herb. My favourite herbalist book says it is good for emphysema and asthma, which sounds positive. However we are told to consult our doctors before mixing traditional and prescription medicines in case they clash, although doctors tend not to know much about herbal remedies. I dunno what to make of it. We just have to make our own minds up.
Yes I guess so. I’m willing to try anything that might help. I’ve been taking it for quite a few weeks now. I’m thinking as I just soak a few pods in warm water and then discard the pod and drink it with the seeds it is probably similar to using in cooking. Thank you for looking it up. I read similar to you. If I was on any regular medication I would check with my GP
Interesting, the pods can be used traditionally used in Indian chai and anything that goes in chai is usually good for you fennel seeds, ginger, cloves, cinnamon sticks or bark.
My mother has always said it acts like an expectorant so for someone like us with Bronch I would say it won't harm and may help.
You should definitely carry on boiling the pods and drinking, I know I would take traditional medicine any day! Good luck, please keep me posted I would be curious to know how you are getting on with it. take care 🤞
Thank you I will. I am happy to give any herbal remedies a try. As you say I don’t think it could do any harm and worth it if it may help. Hoping you keep well and always interested to hear of any tips
