Water retention caused by high testosterone???

Hi! I’m back again. 🙂

If you don’t know I’ve been having some problems with my throat (including tonsils), mouth, face and neck.

Went back to the doctors yesterday to get some results for some allergy tests and vitamin tests that I got done and it turns out I don’t have allergies so yay!! Also got tested for celiac disease (for the second time) which came back negative too. And I got my vitamin B12 and vitamin D levels checked and they were fine. He also said I have low iron which I already knew from when I had other tests done. Apparently it’s meant to be between a 10 and 30 but mine was 9 point something which he said isn’t too low and isn’t anything to worry about yet. I asked if I should take iron supplements and he said there’s no need to do that at the moment.

Then he started asking about my period and asking when was the last time I had one and I told him that I went off the pill in February because it was causing some digestive issues and I had one period 2 days after I stopped taking it and then I haven’t gotten another one since so I haven’t had one in 5 months and he said that can be normal after going off the pill and then he was asking about my hormones and stuff and I told him I had a blood test a few months back which checked quite a lot of different things including hormones and my testosterone was high. And he said in females when they have high testosterone they can get fluid retention all over their body so he said that could be what’s causing my face, neck and inside of my mouth like my tongue and insides of my cheeks to swell.

I’ve heard of fluid retention in your arms legs feet and hands before because I’ve had it in my ankles and also behind my knees but I’ve never heard about it happening in the face and mouth and neck before? Has anyone experienced this? And if so is there anything that can make the swelling go down because the swelling has given me a double chin and a round face and it makes me feel really ugly and depressed and just not myself anymore. And it feels really uncomfortable inside my mouth.

But I don’t know if I believe this diagnosis since the fluid retention in my legs feel squishy whereas the swelling in my neck feels quite hard? And I don’t know if fluid retention would cause swollen and inflamed tonsils like I’ve got? Idk I’m just really confused I feel like I’m being told so many different things and what their telling me just doesn’t feel right.

I have a feeling that I have a problem with my lingual tonsils but each time I mention it to my GPs they have no idea what that is so they don’t check them. 😭

I feel like I’m running out of options and doctors must think I’m crazy for coming in every few weeks wanting to get a proper diagnosis.

I just want to be a normal happy and healthy 17 year old again 😭😭😭😭

Hello Peachy

It sounds like the Pill, may have contained a form of Hormone Testosterone and also the fluid retention. Depending on the length of time you have been on the pill it may take an extended period to get back to normal.

In the early days of my disability I used to suffer fluid on and around joints in my legs. On occassions they would drain the fluid of and sometimes prescribe fluid tablets. However in your case He seems to be expecting the swelling will eventually reduce and return back to normal.. Under those circumstance I can understand why He is leaving your Tonsils alone because as we get older the operation becomes more problematic.

Try and stop worrying you seem to have stopped your Pill not that long ago, five months.

The doctor has His fingers crossed. Have you been to the Dentist, One of their checkups checks gums and mouth for swelling infections and other concerns. You may need an appointment if you have not attended the dentist for more than six months

Hello sorry to hear this.

Please if I suggest increase iron in your diet.

Simple stews slow cooker with lentils beans use tins and use chicken turkey plenty of veggies.

That will help you increase iron.

One example include meat, poultry, breakfast cereals, fresh or frozen green vegetables.

No caffeine.

If vegetarian vegan need to consult those who can help you.

Non meat sources as mentioned beans pulses buy tinned fine, vegetables leafy spinach kale.

Eggs, nuts walnuts good sources, wholemeal bread.

Oatmeal good source add milk water Porridge fruit and microwave two minutes, leave cool down this weather.

Stir in yoghurt another source minerals calcium.

Only solution my opinion look at diet, nutrition what are you eating need to speak to well being service or community dietician at your surgery.

Please if I can add a balanced diet include all the food groups.

My suggestion do a food diary, plan learn educate yourself to cook.

If you do then iron levels other issues subside.

I think also think of every meal time have plenty of veggies, bread after wards wholemeal.

Fruit yoghurt and this will alleviate problems.

Please any questions ask me .
