Could Amitriptyline be the cause of my hot flushes

I've been taking Amitriptyline for a few years now. Highest dose is 50mg. I had reduced my dosage due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. However I've recently increased my dose back up to 50mg, and I've been having terrible hot flushes day and night. I remember having hot flushes before this pregnancy but can't remember it being this bad.

Has anyone else had this side effect?

If so how long until it settled down?

I'm feeling really anxious about something else being wrong with me. Which I guess makes it worse 😩

I also take Sertraline, microgynon and a Vitamin D supplement.

It may see strange, but sometimes your body remembers a previous drug you have been on and symptoms come back stronger than before. I’ve had this happen with Osteoporosis drugs. I’ve also had hot flushes with an Osteoporosis drug. What does it say for side effects on the patient info sheet inside the Amytriptiline box ?

It's not even listed as a side effect

I suffer badly with hot flushes and sweating(but not underarms) and I’ve exhausted my gps attempts to remedy this. I’ve been taking amitriptyline small dose on and off for a good few years for Ibd and menopausal symptoms. Before lockdown I visited a locum gp for a bad chest. I happened to mention the sweats and he said that I should stop taking it as it definitely can cause flushing.

Don’t know if it’s my imagination but since stopping my flushes aren’t as bad but my heat sensitivity is the same. My body doesn’t like it when the temperature goes above 17c. Hope this helps x

I also had bad bad hot flushes (I'm 73) and my daughter (aromatherapist) suggested I take a sage tablet every morning and believe it or not it worked so well I was amazed. I also take amitriptyline 50mg but I had the flushing long before I started them. Hope it works for you.

I have already suffered for years with night sweats. Even cutting down to the low dose of 10mg Amitriptyline had me drenched day and night, had to stop taking them

Hi I was on sertraline, then changed to amytryptolene 50mg then up to 100mg.I was always having hot flushes.sertraline and amytryptolene are not supposed to be taken together, have a look at the leaflet inside.I am now stopping amytryptolene for Ducilitia.Have only been on it a day so hoping hot flushes reduce.

I have terrible sweats and have been on amitriptyline for years, maybe it contributes and makes them worse than they would otherwise be. I’m also on HRT for menopause because the flushes we’re out of control, and that has helped but I still get the sweats, especially at night.
