Good afternoon everyone. Does anybody suffer with spasms? I'm getting them more frequently in my left arm. I also have osteoarthritis in the same arm, shoulder and spine. Couldn't work today as couldn't even hold a pen.

Hi , Wouldn’t it best to speak with your GP , as I presume these are new symptoms? Or even ask your Physiotherapist when you have your treatment what they think , and as to whether you need to see your GP.

Hi Tim61.Thanks 4 your reply. I no longer get physio as they said there was not much more they could do. Been trying for 2 weeks to get a GP appointment 😫. Will start again tomorrow 🙃. Just thought I'd ask if anyone else had this .

Hi, I get a lot of twitching?

Adlon57 profile image

I have severe twitching in my left hand, due to benign tumour [operated] on left elbow, 2012 and severe reactions from AZ vaccine in 2021, which I lost 90% muscle and tendon loss in left arm/hand, which I recovered most of the use of after three years, but now have severe spasms/twitches/essential tremors in left hand, although have found very recently the use of an elastic bandage around my left arm from beyond left elbow to left wrist has curbed these 'jittery' symptoms quite dramatically👍

This is strange I have had to eat one handed, right, for years, I only hope this lasts🤞, people looking at me my left hand shaking, thinking I had Parkinson's disease? I have been tested twice, both negative, my father had PD! I am retired, I almost assumed it was PD, MAYBE I'm wrong?

I also suffer spasms in right side, I have narrowing of spinal cord and cervical stenosis thoracic stenosis and lower lumbar stenosis, I’ve attended neurosurgeon for years, it all started in 2003 with my knees and I was attending orthopaedic surgeon, ( lady) she was amazing, told her about all pins and needles shoulder etc sent me for full body scan, and came back as narrowing of spinal cord, cervical stenosis from, 4-7 but now full Stenosis, lower lumbar was the worse, and sciatica stenosis, I recently went for another mri scan after falling and breaking shoulder in 4 places and they found thoracic stenosis plus kyphoscoliosis curve in spine and thoracic area is worse for spasms. I could have had surgery in 2011 to help with cervical stenosis but I was diagnosed with breast cancer at this time, so no surgery, Im led to believe that thoracic stenosis and herniated disc in this area is rare but was told this is what’s causing my spasms, also constant chest infection due to pressure from this area also, I might be wrong but all the big words doctors use etc it’s hard to understand. So if I was you go to gp now and see if you can get and MRI scan and referred to consultant as spasms ain’t good, I was prescribed METHOCARBAMOL 120mg I do know if I’ve forgotten to take them as I suffer from spasms then the tablets do keep them at bay, but please go see a gp/ consultant and get to root of your spasms as we say, our body’s are all different and only by getting checked over will you find out why. Hopefully they will be able to help with your s more as due to my breast cancer I was to late, I’m fine clear at present of cancer. So please go get to gp. Sorry for the long reply but only way I could explain my situation. I so hope everything goes well and you get something to help with the spasms as they are one sore condition x

Thanks for the reply. I've got 3 people in my home going to try and get appointment for me tomorrow. Hopefully 1 of us will . I'm so pleased to hear you're all clear from cancer. I just get fed up with them saying it's fibromyalgia when I know it isn't. We know our own bodies . Wish me luck

Fingers crossed and hopefully get to the bottom of it for you. We are just numbers now, when I was nursing the patient was priority and care was given always. Everything is such a hassle now and it just gives us more stress. Please let me know how you get on. X

Hi moominlover yes I also get spasms they can range from small ones that last a few minutes to very severe painful ones , the doctor prescribed baclofen & diazepam which help but I find taking magnesium especially in the form of crude black strap molasses in a glass of warm water straight away if leg spasms will get rid of them also I rub magnesium oil these measures really help to manage them . I really hope you find something to help you as they are really miserable

Wishing you well

Hi sweetie hope your feeling better now lots of people have advised and we're mostly all the same. I don't get any physio anymore and if I had to go to see my gp their eyes just glaze over and I'm told it's just another part of fibromyalgia the gift that keeps on giving..

my spasms which can be in my torso, shoulders, neck and legs were eventually diagnosed as sensory stimuli myoclonus. It gets worse if I exercise and requires rest. Sometimes it affects me in bed then I get up and do stretches to relax it so I can sleep. It was much worse for years but eased considerably after a year of medicinal cannabis. It was initially thought it was a side effect of Gabapentin but wasn’t and coming off Gabapentin was hell for a year as it made them worse, and made me suicidal. Then a new doctor told me it was sensory stimuli myoclonus. If I over do it it gets worse. On one occasion I exercised as instructed and later my legs gave way without warning and I fell and hurt my shoulder. We walk a tightrope with shades of glass in it.

Don’t worry. I am now on a low dose of 2 - 3 capsules a day. The problem was a high dose which I gradually cut down over 3 months and then went through a year of withdrawal because it was thought it was causing the spasms. It wasn’t. It’s okay if you never come off it. I was told it would be out of my system in 36hours - haha. Withdrawal caused psychosis, suicidal thoughts and violent spasms at night. I thought I was going mad until I found other people on line going through the same thing. Don’t worry x low dose is fine.
