Ubiquinol effecting periods

Hi Everyone

I don’t know if any of you have experienced this but I was taking CoEnzyme Q-10 ubiquinone 200mg 3 times a day then changed to ubiquinol 100mg twice a day and it has impacted on my periods. I have only been taking it for a month and my period is usually like clockwork but this time it was a few days late and only very light spotting so much so I took a pregnancy test which was negative. I have not had a proper period at all this month. I have undertaken some research and if there is soya in it (which I discovered there is) it can impact on your periods. Has anyone else experienced this? I am thinking of reverting to the ubiquinone as had no issues there. Can I ask your advice please? I also take fertility smart for women, vitamin E 200iu, gentle iron with folic acid and vitamin b12, vitamin c 1000mg, vitamin D 12.5ug, raspberry leaf, omega 3 fish oil 1000mg, flaxseed 1000mg and lipoic acid 100mg, so not sure if I’m taking too much although I have been advised it’s ok. It’s our 3rd cycle in June so doing everything I can to ensure my egg quality is at its best. Thanks I’m advance for any advice! Sending lots of love to you all! ❤️❤️❤️❤️Xxxxxxxx

Hi SazzyJane. You need to take daily supplements of Folic Acid and Vitamin D, or a pre conception vitamin tablet that would contain those. Do you need the other vitamins? Check with your GP/clinic to see if you do, and make sure you eat a sensible diet. Good luck! Diane

Thanks for your response Diane, really appreciate it. I have spoken to my doctor about but to be honest they have not been great re advice on supplements. They do not recommend DHEA so I’ve decided not to try that although I know there is good research evidence on it. I have taken advice from here and books such as ‘it’s all about the egg.’ It’s more because of my age (43) I am doing all I can. We have had 2 failed FET’s from ICSI, 1 day on day 3 transfer and 2 on day 5 transfers all good quality embryos but sadly did not implant. I’ve had some additional tests that all came back normal and we are going to test my partner’s sperm again. I’m just worried that I may be over doing the supplements which has impacted on my cycle. As it’s our last shot we are trying to do everything we can. Thanks for your help and support! 🤩xxx

Did you have an ERA test done? I haven’t needed one, we decided to do donor egg on our third round due to our second round embryos being PGTA tested and being chromosomally abnormal.

The consultant said I could try again with my eggs and ‘we might get lucky’ we weren’t prepared to waste another £12,000 on getting lucky, I was 40 then.

Also how old is your partner, my husband was in his mid 50’s then so we had his sample dna fragmentation tested

Thanks Running79 I am going to have the ERA test and my partner is going to have a DNA fragmentation test. My partner is age 39 and I am 43. This is our third round and like you we have spent a fortune so far. We will see how this round goes and take it from there. I am hoping these additional supplements are useful. Hope your journey is going well with your donor eggs, sending lots of love. 🤩xxxxx

Hi SazzyJane, I’m sorry I can’t give you any advice on delay on your periods, I haven’t experienced it myself.

I’m either taking or have taken the vitamins you are plus a few more.

Like you trying to get the best quality I can.

Wishing lots of luck x

Hi SazzyJane

I have been on ubiqnuol for over 3 months 400mg a day. I have not had any issues with delayed periods due to this specific supplement.

I followed all of the advice from 'it starts with the egg' so like you I am on many of the vitamins you have mentioned. One which stands out for me is the rasberry leaf tea.... when I took this (1 - 2 cups a day for around 3 weeks) it delayed my period by 5 days! I stopped and my period went back to normal the month after.

I think I am quite sensitive to anything messing with my cycle, all of the other supplements did not impact (I had delayed and messed up periods with pregnacare aswell so promptly stopped those)

Good luck!

K

Thanks KLADY123 that’s really good to know! I will stop the raspberry leaf tea as it could be that. I’ve not tried pregnacare but I use Fertility Smart which have been great which are similar to pregnacare. Is there anything else you would recommend please? Lovely to speak to you and thanks for your advice and support! Sending lots of luck your way too! 🤩xxxxxx

Hmmmm, I would really recommend reading 'it starts with the egg' its covers some of the supplements you have already started taking but there are a few additional that may benefit depending on your circumstances. Also has some bits about diet which might be helpful. I'm a book worm so love a good book!

Thanks so much! Things moving along nicely here so soon I will see just how much (if at all) these supplements have done to help my cycle!

Best wishes xx

Thanks I have started the book but I’ve been so busy with work recently I’ve not read as much of it as I’d like! I’m a book worm too, I’ve got some other good books I will let you know their titles. Glad everything is moving along nicely, I have everything crossed for you! Xxxx

I used the supplements from ‘it starts with the egg’ except DHEA and melatonin.

I also used a lot of the brands they mentioned as well. I am also an older lady at 41

Not too bad I’m 9 weeks and 2 days today, not out of the danger zone yet, but willing to get there in one piece!!

I bought some from nature’s best like the vitamin D

I got my vitamin E from my protein

The pre-natal multivitamin which had the natural form of folic acid in it I either got from Amazon or which ever place I could get it from on a google search, as it’s an American brand it’s getting harder to buy.

My COQ10 I either bough from Pharma Nord direct or Dolphin fitness

The r-lipoic acid I bought on Amazon

That’s fantastic news, so glad your pregnancy is going so well. 💖💖💖Thanks re the supplements. I’ve got all mine from Holland and Barrett and the Fertility Smart online. I’ve stopped the raspberry leaf as another lady said it effected her cycle. The ubiquinol 200mg is mixed with soya and I have read online that it has impacted on people’s cycles so thinking of going back to ubiquinone 600mg as I was fine with that. It’s hard to know what to do for the best. Thanks for your advice and support! 🤩xxxxxx
