I can see lots of clincs recommending this but then i look at the packet...seems to contain minimal quantities.....Coenzyme Q10 40 mg.... whereas I take 600mg and he takes 300mg (also l'carnitine and r alpha lipoic and whatever else i can get him to take (was wellman but now a mixture of mine). Is it sufficient to improve poor sperm?
I have been taking
Vit D - 4,000 IU
COQ10 - Ubiquinone, 300mg twice a day
(folic actin) methylfolate 400 mcg twice a day
vitamin c 1000 mg (with 15 mg zinc and iron and 1mg copper)
cod liver oil 1000mg
vitamin b complex (not sure)
vitamin e - 200iu
Nac - 600mg

Hey - I don’t really know why but presume it is because there are several studies evidencing an improvement to sperm parameters which I have read (loser, I know).
For reference my husband’s progressive motility went from 3% to 10%, total motility from 5% to 20%, and concentration from 35m/ml to 80m/ml after 3 months of taking it - so it has made a difference to him. The evidence suggests further improvement in the 3 to 6 month window too but we will see. He supplements proxeed plus with coq10, omega 3 and vit C with added zinc.
We’re starting round 2 in April/May after we had no blasts from the first round (pre proxeed) so hopefully it has helped us.
Sorry your first cycle didn’t work. This journey is damn hard I am also going for second cycle But on my first cycle my husband not taking proxeed. That’s why I want to ask one question did you start proxeed now or when you did your first cycle you were already taking proxeed please guide.
Can't comment on the specifics but I found that the prices for anything branded for conception or pregnancy were marked-up a lot compared to own brand stuff and in particular equivalent vits and supplements that weren't marked specifically for conception/pregnancy/breastfeeding. I ended up using a pharmacy own brand 'skin, hair and nails' combined vit before our collections as it was much cheaper than the big brands' and also had higher concentrations of the specific things I was after than the supplements that were specifically marketed - the latter makes little sense to me, and there may be much better and more concentrated products out there but I got all to blast on those (plus some other things like ubiquinol and folate) and am expecting my second baby soon so they definitely didn't do any harm to my eggs!
It's the L-carnitine fumarate and Acetyl-L-carnitine that are key for sperm improvement and it's what sets Proxeed apart from most other fertility supplements. If he's been taking both of those things (along with the other supplements you listed that you're taking) he's probably good. However, if he's a bit hit or miss with taking all the different supplements I would recommend just taking the Proxeed. You could always supplement it with vitamin D, cod liver oil and a bit of extra ubiquinol if you want, but otherwise the quantities in Proxeed are good! xx
It’s all so confusing. My doctor hasn’t told me to take anything specific and doesn’t seem to believe anything can really improve my AMH levels / biological formation of the egg. I am taking supps anyway as I’m sure they can do no harm but she actually told me not to take DHEA. I don’t know what to believe and everyone’s so different too so it’s hard for us all to compare
My partner and I both have issues and when I read the book ‘It Starts With the Egg’, amongst other research I did, I found out the following and started taking it right away. My partner was prescribed something called Sedifirty but we couldn’t get it here so we broke it down into different supplements. It was a lot to take all in all but it did actually work and his sperm count and motility etc all went up a lot higher. Sperm regenerates every 64 days so that’s the minimum time I’d suggest taking it, although we had a couple of issues same as you with drinking and things on the run up to the last transfer so he only did one month and it still worked…
For me;
1. Folic - 1 x tab 400ug
2. Vitamin D - 4,000ug total
3. Vitamin E - 200 iu total - Stop before embryo transfer
4. Omega 3 fish oil - 1 x tab 1,000mg
5. Iron - 28mg total
6. Zinc - 1 x tab 10mg
7. Magnesium - 350mg total
8. Vitamin C - 1 x dissolvable tablet 1,000mg - Stop before egg retrieval
9. CO-Q10 - 400mg - Stop before embryo transfer
10. Probiotic - 1 x tab daily 5 live
For male factor, my partner was prescribed Seidiferty (not sure on the spelling) but we couldn’t get it in time so broke it down into the ingredients:
1 x Wellman conception
Vitamin C - 1 tablet dissolved (1,000)
Vitamin E - 200 iu total
Zinc - 1 tablet 10mg
Selenium - Brazil nuts (couldn’t get tablets so Rebecca Fett suggests Brazil nuts as a good sub)
CoQ10 - 400mg per day
Omega 3 with 900mg of DHA per day (10ml of fish oil). This was an actual oil you drink and it was gross but made all the difference.
Magnesium - I tablet 150g
This could be useful whichever clinic you use - at least the sooner you start, the more effective it could be when you come down to it.
There’s lots of different information out there but that’s what we used - first egg collection we only got 2 blasts, the first transfer was a BFN, second transfer was a miscarriage sadly. After two or three months of taking the supplements I again only got 2 blasts but must have been better quality as it’s stuck on my last transfer.
I can’t say what it was 100% but we had a better experience and result the second time round doing egg collection etc after taking them but who knows if it’s the numbers game or if everything we did helped!
Thank you, that’s kind. I wish you all the best with yours x
I can just give you our experience with proxeed plus- it was taken twice a day for a couple of months before icsi. All the parameters improved , motility, morphology, count etc. I really do believe it works very well. One word of warning though- it will make your Mr smell fishy whilst he takes it lol. But it's temporary and worth it in the end!
