Does anyone have experience withdrawing from Opiates? I am currently being prescribed Pain Medications for Spinal Stenosis for...going on years and I am trying to cut back by weaning myself off and it's NOT going good. In all honesty I have been dependant on them for quite some time now and I know where this is headed! (both my mother and father are addicts) I am all to familiar with this. I am afraid to ask for help because I am scared to death of being judged. The other day I was having a panic attack and Everyday I am forced to choose between My Anxiety Medication or Pain pill. (Because I know how dangerous it would be to take both at the same time and I will never do that.) I just really need some guidance right now. I am the Mother of 4 and me and my Husbands relationship has been on the rocks for months. At night I am nervous and scared about how I am going to feel the next morning. I have thought and am still considering a treatment center but I am scared to leave my kids and husband. (plus husband is not supportive at all).

Hi Luna, Your question reminded me of myself when I struggled with the same issue. The judgement, the rocky relationship, all of it. This was years back, I can tell you I absolutely was addicted. The only advice I have to offer is taper, taper, taper. I did manage to try suboxone when I could though not through the proper channels. It helped tremendously at the time until I could not obtain it anymore. Some Drs. will prescribe but there is a regimen that must be adhered to. I was not in any position to devote so much time however. I wish I had more to offer you. It does get better in time. xgracy

Thank you so much for sharing with me. I am trying my best, I guess today is a bad day. It took everything in me to just write that post and "put it out there" I guess that's the first step. I will keep at it and try my best to taper.

I weaned off opiates by myself over a few weeks in 2009. I also got off Klonopin at the same time. I was having Central apnea from opiates and could have died from it so I had a big incentive to do so .I was put on Ultram for pain and took that 2 years and went through withdrawal from that. I ve been on 4 naproxen a day since. Taper off. It can be done. I had brain damage from opiates but it healed over time.
