withdrawing from abilify

Starrlight profile image
66 Replies

I was on 2.5 mg of Abilify for about a month. I felt sick most of that time. Now I’m going off of it because I still have the side effects. I feel sick to my stomach, have headaches and my skin and muscles ache. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me feel better until it gets out of my system?

stretching can really help the aching that comes from antipsychotics.

Thanks so much Twinkly. I also called my doctor and am weaning off until I hear back from him.

P.s. I have all of my babies comforting me. My kiddos are out but my fur ones are all gathered around. :)

my doc said just now to go off right away and should be feeling better in two days if the sickness is from this med

Have you tried using a heating pad for the muscle aches? Sometimes that helps me.

Upset tummy helps:

Peppermint (use the leaves to make tea or salad) -- but don't use it if you have reflux.

Chew fresh fennel seed.

Ginger: You can use fresh, ground dried, or candied.

I mix up some of this, and it helps too.

1 c. cold water

1/4 c. dark brown sugar

1/4 c. cider vinegar

2 Tbsp. light molasses

3/4 tsp. (try 1/2 tsp. and taste) ground ginger

Wow thank you such natural nice treatments… let’s see I just ran out of fresh ginger so I will go get that when I can right now my headache is so bad I can barely function I wish I had an assistant to send ha! Oh I do have fresh peppermint. And I do have a heating pad.

It’s pitch dark but I did see Christmas lights still up in the neighborhood. I have purple lights up at my house.

I'm ashamed of you;

You are ungrammatical

In speaking as you do,

You should say, "To whom! To whom!"

Not, "To who! To who!"

May be green, 'tis true,

But you never heard her say

I'd love to see how you use it in art.

I've only used green in appliqué: Hearts and Roses.

Starrlight profile image

What is applique’ ?

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply toStarrlight

Ooooh I looked it up 👀

Nothing_but_books profile image
Nothing_but_books in reply toStarrlight

Appliqué is a type of sewing where you attach a design either on top of or underneath a background. For instance if you wanted a big, shining star on your lovely robe.

It can get pretty fancy. If you're making a quilt -- I'm a quilter -- you can appliqué designs to the quilt. Like in the picture. (Not my work.)

Cool

It's so calming to quilt. For me anyway. I love the intense focus and the repetitive, soothing motion. Oh well, I'm losing my vision, so that's going too.

There once was a man from Stamboul

Who soliloquized thus to his tool

"You took all my wealth

And you ruined my health

And now you won't pee you old fool."

NBB,

I am so sorry to read about your losing your vision. You need to catch a break somewhere.

Haaaa! Love that pixie. Love also your sunglasses. You look very stylin’. 😆 Summee is my favorite season. Today I looked through my school calendar and in 3 months we will have our break for the summer and only about 1 month until a spring break.

I want to plant sunflowers too. I can’t wait to see your photo and I think you are very beautiful. I have an herb garden that comes back each year and this my son planted pumpkin seeds which we got one pumpkin out of last fall. I planted two apple trees that my friend the groundhog eats from.

Thanks! I had some calming tea can’t recall what type. And I took excedrin. Still terrible headache.

Nothing_but_books profile image
Nothing_but_books in reply toStarrlight

The headache could partly be sinuses. Have you got a vaporizer / humidifier?

I think I’ll go to bed early. Good idea, thank you :)

Nothing_but_books profile image
Nothing_but_books in reply toStarrlight

Time to lie down in a darkened room. Maybe a hot cloth on your forehead? Sometimes very strong coffee and Tylenol helps when I get these headaches.

It'll pass. It just suc*s while it hangs around.

You amaze me not once or twice, but continually.

It's a struggle for me to keep positive. Chronic pain and cognitive decline take the reins too often.

All of us here share a struggle. It inspires me to watch you hold your head up... I'm struggling to express what I feel... to watch you find hidden joy in the chaos.

The bird is super adorable!!!! And you continually amaze me as well… you pull your strength from deep within where love and suffering reside. That reminds me, my mom taught me to offer my sufferings up with love; a sort of prayer so that the pain is not in vain. Within that is also peace and joy.

I’m beginning to think feeling so sick is more than from the medication. I feel like my body is shutting down. Or maybe anxiety is getting the best of me.

Nothing_but_books profile image
Nothing_but_books in reply toStarrlight

Don't forget withdrawal from psychoactive meds can take a while.

Nothing_but_books profile image
Nothing_but_books in reply toStarrlight

Uh, nix on the Tylenol - caffeine. I've been taking it off and on for years, but I'm finding warnings on the internet that it's not safe.

Tylenol?

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply toAnxiousSilver

I find that excedrin works best but right now not even that is working.

AnxiousSilver profile image
AnxiousSilver in reply toStarrlight

Sorry to hear that.

I try to keep the pain meds to Tylenol.

You're experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Try doing some exercise. The feelings will pass X

Sorry your going through tough time,I too am coming off a med, that was making me have anxiety really bad and feeling unwell, it's toughbto cope w this change, but I'm feeling better now after stopping it..dr had me on it and they say it takes time, then I read this medicine and the other 2 I'm on should not be taken together it creates serotonin overload basically...I really hope u feel better 2.5 me seems low dose so shouldn't be too bad for you...stay well..

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply toPitalife

Oh no. Your doc should have known better about the serotonin overload possibility and have been more careful. I’m glad you feel better after stopping it.

I woke up with stomach and head hurting.

Pitalife in reply toStarrlight

For me.. (and I know this thread isn't about me)

I'm not a big tea drinker, but for tea fans, tea is very helpful. (especially ginger tea)
