Hello, I am new to forum and this is first time I've posted. In July last year I had blood tests done by GP. I request these once a year just to try and monitor things. My TSH was 4.07 mlU/L (0.27-4.20) plasma free T4 was 11 pmol/L (12-22.00). There was a note of concern re TSH and advice to get tested again in 6 months time. I wasn't surprised as I suspected thyroid problems for a while. I have no energy, low motivation, high cholesterol, intolerance to cold an my body temperature doesn't get above 36.7 and low pulse rate. I decided to try NDT andd ordered Tyromax starting at 3 drops per day and increased now to 10 . I took the advice of getting a full thyroid panel and these are the results: Appointment was at 9.30 am (earliest they could do). fasted 24 hours before and no vitamins 24 hours before.
Ferritin 130 ug/L (30-332); Folate 19.3 nmol/L (>7); B12 Active >150 pmol/L(>37.5) Vitamin D 63nmol/L (50-200) Total Cholesterol from July 24 blood tests was 8.1mmol/L (2.80-5.00) - this has been rising since 2018. I had a bicuspid aortic valve replace in June 21 and they've been trying to get me to take statins, which I'm refusing. I hope I can get this sorted by getting thyroid sorted. I would be very grateful for your thoughts.

i've not heard of tyromax before , so i looked it up .... is this it ? idealabs.ecwid.com/TyroMax-... ( helvella ?wonder if you've come across this )
. their comment about it not dissolving/ shaking bottle makes it sound like getting an accurate daily dose could perhaps be an issue .
wondered why you went for that liquid form rather than a conventional tablet form of NDT with proven track record ?
they seem to be claiming 7 drops = 1 grain USP ,
'a grain' usually means 38mcg T4 and 9 mcg T3 , but it's a bit evasive that they don't state that directly . (as is not revealing the other ingredients without putting it in basket first)
so with 10 drops you're (allegedly) taking about 1 and a half grains , which is a fairly low dose for people on NDT.
and your blood results also seem to indicate the dose is too low , ie , low fT4 level and TSH still looking a bit too high for optimal .
yes this is the link. I don’t know about obtaining other NDT sources in UK especially with good track record. Is there information on this site about good uk sources?
However, I might be able to help by pointing you at my desiccated thyroid document.
helvella - World Desiccated Thyroid

p.s GP's are not allowed to initiate a prescription of NDT on NHS , and the vast majority of the them would not be willing to write a private prescription for it .
It's more or less impossible nowadays to get NDT prescribed by NHS endocrinologist, but a private endocrinologist may prescribe it if you saw one who agrees you need thyroid hormone replacement , not all of them will prescribe NDT , some only prescribe Levothyroxine / Liothyronine , so you'd need to do a bit of research to make sure you chose one who did actually prescribe NDT.
NDT is classed as a 'prescription only medication', ie needs a prescription to buy it in uk , as are Levothyroxine (T4) and Liothyronine (T3) , which is presumably why tyromax have worded things vaguely / don't mention T4/T3 content, and are trying to cover their ass legally by saying it's for external use / research etc ...... if they said it contained T4 and T3 it would be illegal for them to to sell it here without a prescription .... but it's not clear if it actually has have much / any T4/T3 in it , it doesn't seem to be doing anything to improve your low fT4 levels.
thanks for this information. I’ll do the new message with requests for private endos. I’m in Northern Ireland and don’t hold out much hope of getting one that will prescribe it, but you never know . Yes you’re right about Tyromax. They have to be careful about how they sell it even in USA which is where they’re based
Didn't like the sound of this... "Note: This product contains raw material(s) meant for external use only, in cosmetic or other formulations designed for such external use."
It looks like these produces are "for lab/research use only." 🤷♀️
Take results to thyroid specialist endocrinologist
Here’s link for how to request Thyroid U.K.list of private Doctors emailed to you, but within the email a link to download list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologists
Ideally choose an endocrinologist to see privately initially and who also does NHS consultations so that might eventually transfer to NHS
I don’t supplement b12 yet it’s in higher end maybe it’s due to diet as I eat organic meat and veg as well as organic raw milk and free range eggs. Supplement with Vit C, probiotics, vitamin D (though need to increase dose) and k2, magnesium, boron. Yes been thinking of a coeliac test though not a lot of gluten in my diet.
Ignoring what you are taking, your blood test results look distinctly hypothyroid.
Getting your thyroid hormone levels raised (and TSH lowered) might well see your Total Cholesterol reduce.
Your antibody levels indicate an autoimmune issue (Hashimoto's or Ord's). Which means it is not going to resolve and you really must take higher dose or change to a more definite medication regime.
haven’t heard of Ord’s before ? As my calcium level has been consistently high and the aortic valve calcification I also wondered if was something to do with parathyroidism?
