advice on latest bloods

Hi

Currently taking 100mcg thyroxine and 1/2 grain ERFA daily. These are my latest bloods

T4 - 23.8 (12-22)

T3 - 5.5 (3.1-6.8)

TSH - 0.01 (always surpressed due to ERFA)

Ferritin - 37

Iron - 28.5 (5.8-34.5)

Transferrin saturation - 44%

Active B12 - 71.3 (37-188)

Folate - 17.2 (8.83-45)

Vitamin D - 120

Should I decrease T4, supplements with the Bs and take some iron (I’m veggie)

Thank you.

Should I decrease T4

That's what I would do, I would aim to get FT4 down into range.

supplements with the Bs

Active B12 - 71.3 (37-188)

Folate - 17.2 (8.83-45)

I believe this is a Thriva test, if so that range is incorrect for Folate. The actual range is 8.83-60.8 - look at the whole of the green bar on the graphic or look at the downloadable pdf which gives the correct ranges next to your result. That being so your Folate level is actually a lower percentage through range than it appears with the incorrect range you've posted.

Active B12 we suggest to aim for 100 plus, Folate is recommended to be at least half way through range. Definitely supplement with a good quality, bioavailable B Complex such as Thorne Basic B or if you go to Amazon they have liposomal B Complex softgels branded Yipmai and Pink Tribe, either of those would be fine.

When doing any blood test leave off B Complex for 3-7 days beforehand, this is because it contains biotin which gives false results.

take some iron (I’m veggie)

Ferritin - 37

Iron - 28.5 (5.8-34.5)

Transferrin saturation - 44%

Iron supplementation is not indicated. Your serum iron and saturation are very good, optimal level for serum iron is 55-70% through range and yours is 79%, and optimal saturation level is 35-45% and yours is 44%. The higher end of those ranges is for males.

If you supplement with iron then that would take your serum iron and saturation too high and could lead to iron overload, too much iron is as bad as too little. Are you already taking iron supplements?

Only your ferritin is low so consider trying to raise this through diet:

Thank you. No I’m not taking iron supplements at the moment but I would like to increase my ferritin hence the question but I’ll look at your link, thank you.

Hey there Spangle

I don't quite understand why you are taking 2 different options and with NDT at such a low dose question it's benefit.

I would lower the T4 with a view to increasing the Efra if symptomatic :

How are you feeling ?

Hi. I’m taking them both because we couldn’t get things right on just NDT and I didn’t like how synthetic T3 made me feel.

Im not sleeping because I’m feeling very wired when I wake up in the night, have some low mood and anxiety plus tired but that’s probably the night time waking.

Yes I felt turbo charged on synthetic T3 -

i find NDT much softer on my body and it is not so T4 heavy -

I seem to be ok on just 1 + 1/2 grains NDT with a breakdown of 13.50 T3 + 57 mcg T4 :

i never imagined I wouldn't need the presumed 100 mcg T4 and doubt I'd have found my now dose on T3 + T4 on synthetics -

though I not sure you can actually compare these 2 very different treatment options.

My TSH is low suppressed - but it was at 0.01 on T4 monotherapy if I was to be as well as possible - and my T3 and T4 have swopped places and now my T3 is around 90/110 % with my T4 at around 25/30 % through the ranges.

I have no symptoms of over medication and am much improved.

I’m pleased you’re feeling ok

Well - I'm much improved - I think that cap fits better !!

But still need to supplement ferritin, folate, B12 and Vitamin D in order to maintain optimal levels.

Not what you're looking for?
