Confused with latest thyroid results, advice please.

Hello

I would be grateful for some advice as I thought I had finally cracked my dosage.

I’m taking 2 grains of NDT, one at 7am and one at 2pm. I’ve not been able to get passed taking more than 2 grains, so I stuck at that and decided to add some Levothyroxine.

25mcg of Levothyroxine for three days of the week, and then 12.5mcg four days. As I still didn’t feel quite right just on NDT alone.

I gradually increased my Levothyroxine to the above dosage, as originally just took 12.5mcg every day with my NDT, but, I didn’t want to end up taking too much, but, recently I started to get very forgetful, very anxious, brain fog, and ice cold again, absolutely exhausted, hairloss, dark circles under eyes.

I was convinced I was overmedicated as I recognised the symptoms.

I did a thyroid blood test on Monday, leaving 24 hours before Levothyroxine and 8 hours NDT, and took the test at 7am.

The results are here and I’m slightly puzzled that I’m not over on my T3, but under on T4, why the symptoms?, is it a Hashimotos attack?

TSH 0.032 (0.27-4.2)

T3 6.43 (3.1-6.8)

T4 11.6 (12-22)

Back in October I did another thyroid test before increasing my Levothyroxine to 25mcg every three days and here are the results, again making sure NDT taken at correct time as well as Levothyroxine.

TSH 0.032 (0.27-4.2)

T3 4.8 (3.1-6.8)

T4 11.800 (12-22)

Ferritin 32.6 (13-150) increased taking this now

Folate 7.44

Vitamin B12 150 (37.5-188)

Vitamin D 84.1 (50-175) (taking better you spray as recommended on here.)

Thyroglobulin antibodies 19.800 (<115)

Thyroid peroxidise antibodies 46.2 (<34)

As said based on those results I increased levo to 25mcg three days from 12.5mcg everyday.

What’s going on with my T4 results?

Is it the T3 results that making me feel this way?

Best wishes

Many thanks in advance.

Some folks need their FT4 well over halfway in range to feel well ; others manage with low FT4. It is an individual thing. You maybe need to increase your levo and continue with NDT at the current level. I am afraid it is a case of trial and error to see what combo suits you best.

I wouldn’t like to say as you are an individual with individual needs. But, I can tell you that I need Levo t4 with my NDT. I have 45 NDT first thing with 50 Levo.

How do you feel at the moment? I was told to increase my Thyroid S or decrease depending on how I felt

Hi,

Forgetful, anxious and jittery.

I really thought my T3 results would be over due to this.

Best wishes

I'm on 4 grains ndt, but had signs I was below par (your symptoms but not so bad) so I actually added 1/4 of a 25mg tab of liothyronine to increase my levels and the sparkle came into my life, I'm doing that daily now, just before I need to undertake something which involves energy, eg exercise, and I'm feeling good. I can't get my bloods done as GP won't, but I'm very happy just listening to my body.

Thanks for your advice, I’ll try the only thing is it will send my T3 results over.

I would look at your D as it would not suit me at that level. How much do you take?

Ferritin could also be higher as could B12. All will give you the symptoms you have.

Blood tests will only tell you what is available not what is happening at cellular level. Temperature readings might help and give you additional information. Basal temperature (before getting out of bed 1st thing) should be 97.8-98.2. Optimum temperature for thyroid treatment is a mid afternoon temperature of 98.5-98.6. You should sit quietly for ten minutes before taking temperature and do not eat or drink for 20 minutes before taking it.
