Hi All - I have just received my latest vitamin results (still waiting for the thyroid results.)
Ferritin has dropped slightly
194 range 13 - 150 - but still high.
Vit B = 107 range 37.5 to 188 - slight increase from last test
Vit D= 62.5 range 50 to 175 - dropped since last test.
Last test was April and I have been using the Better You vitamin D+K2 and Daily Vitamin B12 since then.
Any advice on why Vitamin D is falling?
Folate serum 7.44 range>3.89 so within range.
CRP HS =7 range <5 - so increase.
Magnesium =0.86 range 0.7 to 1
Zinc = 15.27 range 10.7 to 17.5
All my cholesterol tests are slightly above range. Something else I need to work on π
I saw GP today as they made me do a blood test for my prescription - TSH vertually non existant 'OMG' says Doc 'this is a probkem' - 'I have no thyroid' I replied 'so it's not relevant is it'?
My T4 is high and T3 towards the top of range - I will post the medicheck results when they come through - he wanted to reduce my dose - currently 175 (I increased my dose from 150 a day after I had the blood test as my symptoms are escalating again. I'm getting worse muscle weakness and sometimes for hours at a time my thighs go dead - I can stick a pin in my left thigh and not feel it and I have constant flutters/spasm in both thighs. Fatigue was getting worse. To give the GP his due when I said I refuse to decrease my dose and that I had actually increased it and the reasons why he was actually very sympathetic and said I clearly knew more than he did and he would give me a perscriotion for the extra 25 - I was using old 25s from a lower dose perscriotion.
Better than the doctor I saw a couple of weeks ago to get my prescription - she said if I increased my dose myself she would not give me a perscriotion!
Anyway I'm starting to ramble - any ideas why Vit D is falling and CRP rising? Thank god for this forum or I think I would have simply rolled over and given up.
As always thanks in advance ππ

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.
D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules/softgels, no necessity if using an oral spray
Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.
Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules, no necessity if using topical forms of magnesium.
Check out the other cofactors too (some of which can be obtained from food).
For a level of 62.5nmol/L (25ng/ml) the Vit D Council suggests, to reach their recommended level of 125nmol/L, supplementing with 3,700iu D3 daily. As the nearest is 4,000 then if it was me I'd take 4 sprays daily, start taking magnesium to help the body use the D3, and retest in 3 months.
Once you've reached the recommended level then you'll need a maintenance dose to keep it there, which may be 2000iu daily, maybe more or less, maybe less in summer than winter, it's trial and error so it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range. You can do this with a private fingerprick blood spot test with an NHS lab which offers this test to the general public:
(I find I actually need 5000iu even in summer to keep mine around the recommended level, but I'm not a sun worshipper so don't make a point of sitting out in it.)
Many people on Levothyroxine need relatively high maintenance dose of vitamin D.
Do you supplement magnesium?
Your folate is a bit low. You might be better supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, instead of just B12 (or perhaps as well as B12 if you have low B12 symptoms)
When Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be more beneficial.
B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast
Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).
Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
is this how you do your tests?
High cholesterol is frequently linked to being hypothyroid and suggests you are not over treated
If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.
Research shows 20% Patients with no thyroid can not regain full health on just Levothyroxine
I'm not supplementing magnesium and take the reccommended 3 sprays of Better You VitD daily. My bloods were done at 9am and missed my morning dose till after blood test. I did the medicheck thyroid test the next day - also 9am so am waiting for those - but not due for another week - 14 day turn around. Thanks for the info on cholesterol - was very confused as to why high - especially as my diet (gluten and lactose free) is about as healthy as I know how. Fish, chicken, fruit and veg is it really - little meat once or twice a week - lots od tuna and salmon π. Since going gluten and lactose free I have lost just under a stone and a half. Still overweight - 12 stone 2 pounds (I'm only 5 foot) but the most I've managed to loose in years π
I'm seeing an endo in October - NHS referral - praying he is open to T3 /T4 combination. If not then I will have to try private - but money getting very tight as unable to work. Each time my T4 is increased I feel improved - went up to 150 mid May - but then seem to go backwards? Symptoms return and usually a little extra - the dead legs thus time!
Thank you for the advice /info - I will get the B complex as reccommended -, π
If I ever get this T4 and T3 figures out, maybe I can get off blood pressure and cholesterol medications. This journey is a nightmare but maybe things will be better for lots of health issues. Thank you
Hi SlowDragon - NHS referral in October. Will see how it goes but if no joy I will ask for a second opinion or see a private endo. And I am supplementing magnesium - bloody brain fog! I am using the better you oil π can't even remember what the hell I'm taking!
