Back in July of this year i had low levels of vitamin D as diagnosed via medichecks. My result was 37.3nmol (range 50 - 175). I gained some really good advice from this forum and started taking a D3 5000iu supplement as well as vitamin mk7. I have retested my vitamin D after 3 months of taking supplements, and pleased that my vitamin D level has now increased. My level is now 67.4nmol (range 50 - 175) and have been told this is now within the normal range. So my question is do i continue taking taking a supplement or do I reduce the dose to maintain my level, and if so how much should i be taking? I have reduced to 30000iu since about two weeks ago.
Thank you

You could have continued with the original dose until you reached the recommended level (100-150nmol/L). You just retest at 3 monthly intervals until you've reached that level then change to a maintenance dose, retest 3 months later and if stable on that then twice yearly testing is enough.
With your current level of 67.4nmol/L the Vit D Council suggest 3,700iu D3 daily to reach the recommended level (nearest is 4,000iu).
The choice is yours really, either go back to 5,000iu daily or take 4,000iu daily. If you take the lower dose then it will just take that bit longer to reach the recommended level. As it's now winter with no chance of making any D3 naturally from the sun, then my own personal choice would be to take 5,000iu and retest in 3 months to see how things are.
If you just want to do a D3 test on it's own then use vitamindtest.org.uk/ the cost is £29.
Are you also taking the other important cofactor - magnesium?
Now you have been improving low vitamin levels you need thyroid levels retested too, TSH, FT4 and FT3 together
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Hi SlowDragon, yes I had the Antibodies test in July also. Results were as follows,
Thyroglobulin w <10kui/4 (<115)
Thyroid Peroxidase was <9.94 kiu/l (<38)
I have had my Thyroid tested a few times over the past few months. Both via my GP and also myself, via medichecks. All have said they were within normal ranges so have not been diagnosed with an Autoimmine disorder. This is dispite comments on here regarding my results may suggest possible Central hypothyroidism. Have mentioned this to GP but don't seem to be getting anywhere so im in a bit of limbo at the moment!
I will continue taking D3 supplements as suggested.
