Transition from Disease to Health.
Well, to report progress along the way I think I have got through the flare of GCA to a stable state albeit back on 35 mg pred. It's taken a couple of months nearly to overcome the drop to 22.5mg when the flare started. Now to taper slowly and see if I can get down to a better level. All this has given

What was that all about?
Shin
splints
, drizzle, a stop for a tractor hauling slurry (poo!), missed my first check point by 30 seconds, a snooty young runner in the opposite direction too self-absorbed to return a Good Morning to an old fart, and turned my ankle over in a pothole at 5km.

Why do some GPs not follow the management of cellulitis consensus guidance?
In this weeks "Ask the Expert" Dr Catherine talks about managing cellulitis. https://youtu.be/0bu4Zd7b5c8

Nail issues
Does anyone have issues with their nails (fingers & toes) splitting, cracking, peeling, coming off, dips, humps, ect. I do, and my dermatologist has given me a prescription for a nail treatment, and it is a nail polish color. My problem is I’m a male, who has what looks like nail polish on ! Everyone

Week 3 Run 1. Pleasantly surprised!
So while I'm taking an extra rest day per run due to my paranoia over getting
shin
splints
again.I've finally managed to make it to week 3. The jump to 3 minute intervals wasn't that bad! Quite happy with this.

1 in 4 men are diagnosed with non melanoma skin cancer. 1 in 36 with melanoma.
YET MEN ARE LESS LIKELY TO COVER UP AND WEAR SUNSCREEN, CHECK THEIR SKIN FOR SIGNS OF CHANGE OR VISIT THEIR GP WITH ANY CONCERNS. Knowledge is power - share it with the men you care about.

Week 2 Run 1
After several attempts that wound up unceremoniously axed due to
shin
splints
, I am re-attempting Couch to 5k! This time paying *very* close attention to how I'm running and if my shins even feel slightly weird, I'll be resting a few extra days just to make sure.

The Holmes-Adie Syndrome in the Mona Lisa of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)
Another paper speculating on historical, and artistic, thyroid disease. Interesting, but always take such things with a big pinch of salt.

Melanoma can appear anywhere on the body, but are most commonly found on the trunk in men and legs in women.

Shin splints . . . Recovery
Any advice on how to deal with
shin
splints
? Been really enjoying the program and following it to the letter etc but suddenly after Week 7 Run 2, one of my shins feels so painful. I don’t really want to take a break from the programme as was/is feeling so good and proud about it but what can I do?

Non-melanoma skin cancer is hugely overlooked
Non-melanoma skin cancer is hugely overlooked, yet it’s the UK’s most common cancer with over 240,000 cases diagnosed annually - with figures expected to increase to over 400,000 by 2025! Rates of melanoma are rising faster than any other cancer in Britain with 1 in 36 males and 1 in 47 females diagnosed

Shin splints..
Hi, Does anyone else suffer with this? I’m on W8R3 and as much as it isn’t as bad as in the early days I still have a moderate amount of pain. I always leave at least 1-2 days between runs to allow rest but it doesn’t seem to make much difference. I’ve read rest is the only real treatment but don

Melanoma Groin Dissection
Hi I recently had a groin dissection for melanoma & had 5 lymph nodes removed , I’m told the cancer was in just one of those. & I am now being offered Immunotherapy but when I read all the side effects one actually being skin cancer itself , I am not sure whether to have this or just have scans to check

Advise on mild shin splints please
I've had
shin
splints
when I run. The first week was getting worse so I changed shoes and now it's not worse or better. I'm wondering if you more experienced people recommend changing shoes again or just waiting for my body to adjust to running? Thanks
