Understanding Palliative Care
I received a email today: There is a lot of confusion when it comes to
palliative
care
.
Many people equate the term
care
with hospice, but the two terms are not interchangeable.

Preparing for end of life care - what to discuss and where to get help
Did you involve any professionals in advanced care planning and preparing for end of life
care
? Do you receive any
palliative
care
from a hospice or someone else, and if so what does that involve and how did you get it? Thank you everyone

Dr Maté points out four observations that he noticed from his time working in
palliative
care
- I nodded for each one of these, as they are what I’ve experienced since childhood. Wanted to share in case it might be helpful/ interesting to anyone.

Air fryer?
I've been eating LCHF for 4 years, and have experienced many health benefits from it. But while eating high fat, I have never turned to deep fried foods. That's mostly because I am not prepared to deep fry in my home, and outside the oil is mostly seed oils, that is highly recycled. Thus I have been

The cancer center that's affiliated with the big medical corp that most of my doctors work for has only recently included the
Palliative
Care
team, and I'm really wish I had been referred there several years ago.

Dad has lung cancer
They have said just
palliative
care
and potentially radiotherapy to manage symptom as they arise. No biopsy needed as it wouldn’t change the prognosis. Does that sound about right… should I be asking for anything else?? He is only 64 and I feel they almost as if they write people off.

How do you cope when your loved one is moved to palliative care with no further treatment?
They are not continuing with treatment and are placing him on
palliative
care
. I asked for a prognosis and the doctor said maybe a few months. I am beyond devastated. How does anyone cope with this news? I am heartbroken!

Been for my appointment at the LGI today
It will be
palliative
care
now. All my checks today looked good and he was pleased with my weight loss. He is also going to arrange an exercise test and a cardiac catheter as it’s been 6 years since my last ones. I’m not back to see him now for 6 months.

The battle is over
His death seemed rather sudden- 5 days into
palliative
/comfort
care
. Pain management was the only treatment. I had expected that the many lesions growth would have been continuous until they sucked life from him., so the sudden death spared him what I envisioned to be a rather awful death.

So what do I do now?
Except Primary
Care
and
Palliative
Care
. URMC, again except Primary
Care
and
Palliative
Care
, treats patients like children – I actually had a couple of nurses in oncology ask me if I had medical training because I used “all those medical terms” as if that was a problem.
