Understanding Palliative Care

I received a email today:

There is a lot of confusion when it comes to palliative care. Many people equate the term palliative care with hospice, but the two terms are not interchangeable. Palliative care is a medical approach that can be applied at any stage of disease – even at the time of diagnosis! Palliative care is focused on maximizing quality of life and complements a person’s overall treatment plan. We receive a lot of questions from our Parkinson’s disease (PD) community about palliative care and we are here to help you learn more about this important and often misunderstood topic.

Thanks for the note

I am under a palliative physician (neurologist) specialising in movement disorders. Her consults definitely improved my quality of life and assuaged some of the fears I had

Apart from overseeing my therapies - speech, occupational and movement-

She also referred me to voice banking, and introduced alternative communication devices for later stage disease

I’ll definitely sign up for the link you provided.

Thanks much

Kindest regards

BR
