I now have
Osteopenia
, one step less than osteoporosis. Have increased Calcium to 1500mg per day. No other meds for that at this time. I've had osteoarthritis for 30+ yrs so that also contributes to the negative bone structure, I just didn't expect to have bone density to go bad so quickly.

Update on me
I stated my case point by point and told her I'd had a private blood test and she listened nd said she would start me on a low dose (she said 25mg to begin with as I have
Osteopenia
) and is referring me to an Edocrinologist as I am 'so borderline' to see why I am having so many symptoms and blood tests

Prednisone Reduction with Methatrexate
This is because of developing the side affects of cataracts, high interocular pressure and
Osteopenia
after a year on Prednisone. I am now down to 9mg Pred. I am not experiencing too many aches and pains as normally associated with Pred reduction; as the methatrexate is takimg effect.

Advice needed re good bone unit
I have osteoporosis in my spine, with one compression fracture, and
osteopenia
in my hips, all probably long-standing but only recently diagnosed when arthritis scans were done.

Vitamin D - is a supplement needed and how might I take it?
Since I have had Osteoporosis /
Osteopenia
since I was 38 (am now 53) I am concerned about the Vit D - I usually spend considerable time outside (far more in the summer, though it does depend on work commitments: I'm currently out of work) and I eat healthily (my diet has been assessed because of osteoporosis

Full bloods - low B12, low neutrophils and other white cells, low vit D - please can anyone offer advice on next steps and supplements?
I had very rapid menopause at 46 (7 years ago - over before I noticed) and have had worsening
osteopenia
since 38 with some osteoporosis now. So I'm worried about my bones... bad osteoporosis runs in my family, I'm doing well compared with others and want to keep it that way. Not on HRT. Thanks!

ARMOUR: T3 always high,T4 always low,TSH EXTREMELY low--docs won't help. Advice, please...
Are there some meds that cause
osteopenia
more so than others (I've become osteopenic, pretty bad in a few places)? I was never told that taking thyroid meds can cause
osteopenia
/osteoporosis so never took extra supplementation and my body is showing it.

Really sorry .....
The bone scan showed osteoporosis T 2.5) in my spine and
osteopenia
(T2.1) in my hips. I'm so fed up with all of this I could cry. I've always tried to be so healthy and thought I was and now I feel like I'm falling apart and I'm only just 60.

My first post!
The steroids seem to have caused
osteopenia
, unusual for a man my rheumy says, and also tipped me over the edge with type 2 diabetes. Bloods tests also discovered I have MGUS, it's sometimes called paraproteimia. Can add arthritis, cataracts and glaucoma for good measure, also BPH and hypertension.

Diabetes and menopause, twin challenge.
The prevalence of
osteopenia
and osteoporosis in post-menopausal diabetic women is more than post-menopausal non-diabetic women, which is evident from a lower femoral neck T-score (that describes the density of the bones) in diabetic patients compare to the non-diabetic healthy individuals.

Lidocaine Infusion
As well as RA I've got fibromyalgia and
osteopenia
. My pain consultant has decided lidocaine infusions could help with the pain. Anyone else had any experience of these?.

We have differing issues to an extent: mine was a 'late' diagnosis in my 40's after numerous joint dislocations, subluxations, injuries, reconstructions, pain, fatigue, early onset degenerative discs,
osteopenia
etc until finally someone put two and two together and gave the correct diagnosis rather

Hi, I have results from Blue Horizon. I would be grateful for your interpretations of results. Particularly any relevance to osteoporosis
At 58 I had
osteopenia
now at 60 osteoporosis. I am not taking anything for thyroid as I believe levothyroxine may deplete my bones of calcium. Would I be better taking NDT? Such a lot of information but I would be grateful for any feed back. Thank you so much.

Hello all, just saw the old thread about
osteopenia
pop up on the news feed. I was about to ask my own question about what relevance it has to autoimmune disease (lupus, sjogrens or APS) as I had a bone scan last friday and I have
osteopenia
.
