Osteoporosis - My Experience.
It was eventually September 2015 when I managed to see a locum who happily organised a scan which gave a T-score of -3.5 for the left femur neck and
osteopenia
scores for the spine. Anything worse than -2.5 is considered to be osteoporosis.

Constant UTI's
I'm sero+ RA (diagnosed 5 years ago), also I have
osteopenia
, sleep apnea, hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia. I take various meds including MTX 25mg via injection, I also have Rituximab infusions every 6 months. For the past 4 years I've suffered from repeated UTI's.

Pain in jaw or gums or teeth - don't make my mistake!
Dentist found very swollen gum and a bad infection under the tooth which she thinks is probably in the ligaments and a result of the
osteopenia
(drawing calcium away from teeth for my bones).

Update
The positives are that they have found no evidence of infection within the bones or any
osteopenia
(a lesser degree of osteoporosis) that they were worried about and my circulation within my leg/ankle/foot seems ok.

What now please? I'd really appreciate advice and info
and instead has advised increasing my dose of Levothyroxine although for a long time my TSH has been suppressed - which apparently increases the risk of
osteopenia
! So it's okay if the
osteopenia
worsens because of T4 but not because of T3!?

I also have
osteopenia
along with feeling lethargic and hair that feels like straw. I've read quite a few good things abut this supplement.

Also got my bone density scan and not sure what it means but I have
osteopenia
which seems to be a lesser thing than osteoporosis - it says I have a 22.8% chance of a fracture within 10 years and a young adult t score of - 1.9 - whatever all that means!

New here, introducing myself and have a question
In 2011 I was diagnosed with fatty liver and about 1 ½ years after that I was diagnosed with diabetes,
osteopenia
and a femoral hernia. Around this time I had gone on a very healthy diet with loads more exercise and also had my hernia surgery.

Finally - referral to the BSGE Endo Team
One concern is that due to my having
osteopenia
and a family history of osteoporosis it is recommended that I have oestrogen HRT.

NHS Bone Scan - how often?
My last scan was 2 years ago when my spine was t=2.4
osteopenia
. I haven't seen my scan result this time yet. I looked at all the NHS treatment options and decided they are not for me at this point.

Confused
I have been taking amitriptyline now for 3 years 2 years ago I was diagnosed with
osteopenia
. I recently found out that they think amitriptyline is bad for anyone with
osteopenia
or osteoporosis. When I spoke to my gp he said it had not been confirmed yet Wether there is a link to this.

Newbie unsure how to get a diagnosis
It took a very long time to heal & it was discovered I had
osteopenia
& low vit d/calcium so I now take supplements. My vit d level is quite good now but I have had 2 blood tests in the last 2 months with my inflammation markers (ESR & CRP) both raised & getting higher.

Advice on taking bisphosphonates
I have today received a copy of a letter sent to my gp regarding my recent bone scan and it has been suggested that as I am just within the
osteopenia
category I should be started on treatment immediately. My T scores are -femoral neck -2.3 , total hip -1.0 and spinal L1 to L4 0.

Does the result show
osteopenia
or osteoporosis and has anyone else had IV zoledronate infusions? Thanks again to all who post on this forum, would be totally lost without it!

Foods/Supplements-Vitamins: Calcium
Many older men have probably used a multimineral containing calcium - even men without
osteopenia
or osteoporosis. As I mentioned elsewhere - before dairy farms & calcium pills, men had sufficient bone health to go out hunting & gathering. The diet somehow provided enough.

Transdermal Estrogen + ADT {was Zometa}
He mentions patients that arrive with
osteopenia
& gain bone mineral density while on ADT - because of the E2 patch. I have an issue with how he deals with E2 & clotting risk. The aim of the E2 patch when used with Lupron, say, is to restore E2 to a normal level for bone health.

Help with self medication please
His argument was that my TSH was too low and that I had a high pulse rate (93) which put me at risk of atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis (I do have
osteopenia
which is being treated with a Vit D & calcium supplement), although I think this stems from a lack of dairy in my 30s due to a gall bladder
