Diagnostic Testing for Osteoporosis
I've no idea how many people with OP or
osteopenia
have an underlying cause that can be identified and rectified, thus forestalling expensive fractures, loss of independence etc. In my case, I've 2 siblings with early-onset osteoporosis, and I've recently sustained a fracture.

Panicking a bit and trying to understand Osteopenia results??? How severe is this???
I am pretty sure I have
osteopenia
so I am really freaking out. I have been athletic all my life, but now this! I took the test as a preventative measure to reassure a Primary Care Physician that I was fine or so I thought.

Finally seen Hepatologist
The dexa scan showed I have
osteopenia
. The fibro scan wasn't too bad (I was told this over phone from a nurse) she also said it looked like I have fatty liver disease (?) I go back to my Gastro next week so maybe he will have my results from them. I had my colonoscopy and it was all good.

Spinal buldges, herniations, pinched nerves, fractures / autoimmune disease, chronic pain VS. dementia
I was told by him it wasn't advisable to get chiropractic care anymore because of
osteopenia
. The only thing he gave me for pain was gabapentin. Started me on low dose (100mg 3xday) then quickly increased it to 600mg 3x day. That drug made every nerve ending in my body stand on edge.

A shock.
I had a T12 spinal wedge fracture 2012...scan showed I was
osteopenia
but nothing given or done..beginning of 2015 after waiting 5 months to see specialist I was told I had a T2&4 spinal wedge fracture. I had kypoplast surgical procedure and a scan.

No steroids for me
Did I forget to mention I am being treated with fosamax for
osteopenia
. Weaned myself off of the demon drug. Been off of them for 2 months now. Yes the pain and stiffness is back in my shoulders and thighs. No sense in going back to the rheumatologist he will just put me back on them.

Different meds combinations and side-effects
This is my latest one for a recent diagnosis of
osteopenia
(from a bone density scan) and I am not too happy to be taking it, considering its alarming record of side-effects. The GPs advise if I am worried about taking it, don't take it then! Not the most useful of comments.

31 years with ITP - new here
I have
osteopenia
from the steroid use, and reflux, from the steroid use. I now have iron store problems too, whether from long term medication for the reflux or something else.

Tapering after 5 weeks on 20mg
My DEXA scan also showed good hip bone density but
osteopenia
in spine (which shocked me) and he wants me to consider taking Alendronic Acid a Biphosphonate drug whilst on Pred. Any thoughts? I do take Vitamin D, magnesium, Boron and Vitamin A. Thank you.

Strontium Ranalate and exercise
My last Dexa showed a really good improvement and my spine is now
osteopenia
classed and my hip measurement has improved. I have a healthy diet and do around 20 hours exercise a week. I find Body Balance classes 3hours a week really beneficial .

High Winds and Water warnings
I now have
Osteopenia
, one step less than osteoporosis. Have increased Calcium to 1500mg per day. No other meds for that at this time. I've had osteoarthritis for 30+ yrs so that also contributes to the negative bone structure, I just didn't expect to have bone density to go bad so quickly.

Update on me
I stated my case point by point and told her I'd had a private blood test and she listened nd said she would start me on a low dose (she said 25mg to begin with as I have
Osteopenia
) and is referring me to an Edocrinologist as I am 'so borderline' to see why I am having so many symptoms and blood tests
