My journey with Polymyalgia Rheumatica
I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica in August of 2022 so I’m now approaching my 2 year mark which will be August of 2024. I am blessed to have a good family doctor who diagnosed me quickly and referred me to an equally good rheumatologist. Now the only question is how to conquer the beast. Like

Hypertension Stage 2, need advice.
Hello: My blood pressure has been uncontrolled for about 8 months. My primary care doctor has me on 100mg of losartan, and 5mg of amlodipine. I am also taking 1000mg of abiraterone, with 5mg of prednisone; also .4mg of tamsulosin. And I had an orchiectomy. This morning my BP was 156/97. It’s been running

How important is the timing when the dose is 0.5mg?
hello and happy new year! I’m successfully down to 0.5mg Prednisolone daily and take it when I wake in the early hours (2-3.30am) How important is this timing at this dose? Is there a more beneficial time?

Steroids and blood-sugar...
I posted recently about the "Prednisolone jitters" and quite a lot of people seem to have responded with similar experiences. I think I might have some insight which might be useful to someone out there... Before being diagnosed with PMR I used to get episodes of low blood sugar. I know this because

Heading for transfer no.6 - protocol modifications
So today I had my follow up appt after 5th failed transfer. Was hoping mr Dr would suggest something new and boy has he done that! 😊😊 5th transfer I had HCG wash before transfer but no other additional tests/treatments. This time I’m having clexane injections, prednisolone, oestrogen patches instead

skin tears
I have vasculitis, MPA, microscopic Polyangiitis, and have been on prednisone for 3 years. Currently I am on 2.5 mg. Recently I developed several skin tears on my legs. Saw my rheumatologist yesterday and he told me to stop the prednisone. Suggestions please…can I just stop the 2.5 or should I taper

Biotin interference with Thyroid bloodwork
I am due for follow up blood work and just remembered that biotin interferes with the test results. How far in advance must I quit taking my B complex which has 100% daily requirement of Biotin? My last TSH a few months ago was .03, super low for me. I usually run between 1.5 and 2. But my FT4 was

What to do after prednisolone rescue ended?
Has anyone any advice how to get back down to my normal dose of inhaled steroid after a short prednisolone course and chest infection please? Story: I’m maintained on 1 or 2 puffs once a day of Alvesco 80, PF max 380 and very occasional use of Ventolin. I caught a cold virus about 12 days ago and despite

"Prednisolone Jitters"...is it A Thing...?
I am fairly new to Prednisolone, barely one week in. It has helped enormously but it has also had some odd and unexpected effects. I often wake in the middle of the night with my body raring to get up and do some gardening, chop some wood or take the dog for a long hike...at 1am...! My mind, of course

switch to hydrocortisone
I’ve been to see the endocrinologist today on the recommendation of the rheumatologist. I had a borderline synacthan test , on the basis of which today he has suggested I switch to 5mg of hydrocortisone twice daily from 4 mg of prednisolone. In the background to this I have also been prescribed low

What exclusionary tests should I ask my doctor for? IL-6 inflammation tests? + other random PMR questions
I'm a 44-year old woman fairly confident I have PMR due to the symptoms I've experienced & the dramatic success of prednisone in treating them. (I put a longer backstory in my profile - which I'm assuming you can access.) I worry somewhat about GCA involvement because when my symptoms have been strong

Prednisolone Week 2 Completed
UPDATE: So, not as clear cut as I was hoping in terms of documenting my Prednisolone journey as after week 1 my dose has been halved from 30mg to 15mg by my NHS Rheumatologist so it's all a bit messy at the minute in terms of 'tapering' Nevertheless, here goes: Week 2 started on 15mg really well, day

Omeprazole query
Recently diagnosed and on prednisolone; also prescribed Alendronic acid (weekly dose) and Omeprazole. I thought my GP said that as I have no history of gastric problems to only take the Omeprazole in the evening before I take the alendronic acid the next day. But she has prescribed enough for once daily

5mg reduction in prednisone a day!
Recently I had another GCA scare and the doctor raised my pred from 5mg a day to 30mg. - however, when the scare was over I was told to come down 5mg a day. 30 - 25 - 20 - 15 etc. I felt dreadful. Has anyone else come down so sharply - my entire system is still going through it - even though I’
