Has anyone had a side effect when taking Xtandi. An allergic reaction of full body itchy burning unbearable rash after taking it a week. Took Abiraterone for 4 years with no side effects. PSA started to rise so was switched to Xtandi. They took me off the drug but the rash is horrible.
taking prednisone pack and Triamcinolone cream fir relief but not getting much relief.

I have Xtandi side effects that are similar. Eventually I feel constantly inflamed in my body with headache & body pains pain meds won’t help. I skip two doses and my body resets. I hate to skip, because if I skip too often Xtandi won’t be effective. I don’t know if any way to stop this. About every three weeks I get sick this way. I am on Trelstar shots and Xtandi.
I did have a full body rash about the time I started Xtandi. Showed my back to Dr. and was told none of the medications prescribed would cause a rash. Almost all the meds I was taking said to let Dr. know if I had a rash. So much for that. It eventually went away. I'm still taking Xtandi after 6 and a half years. I think it may be starting to fail. I've been getting a Lupron and now Eligard injection every 6 months for 7 years. Wondering if having that injection every 2 months or so might help with my psa creep.
I’ve just now been switched to 6 month Eligard too …. Got my implant on Wednesday. A few hours later and for most of the day I got so horribly sick , it rivaled anything the Zometa pain train threw at me. Unlike Zometa tho, it ebbed quickly and I seem to be Oakie-Doakie ( so-so ) OK now. I do have some seeming unpleasant chemical aftertaste in my pallet - nostrils …. Prolly from the different dispersion method since the actual chemical is the same. Might be the big initial load of leuproelin probably. Dunno really.
These drugs really suck. I mean s-u-c-k. I think chemo killed almost all of my taste buds. But I still can't pass an In-N-Out without stopping to visit. Sorry about your drug reaction. I get a belly shot, and doesn't seem to affect me much anymore.
I'm on Eligard and prednisone, but no Xtandi. My skin is much thinner now than it was before starting the treatment. Almost any contact with an edge or corner breaks the skin and leaves a bruise. Additionally, I have never suffered with rashes, but now I break out with itchy rashes regularly. The photo is an example of a owie I got from a slight bump against the car door, while wearing pants.
(Actually, didn't need to post the pic, but Kaliber can't be the only one showing some skin on this site)
I started on monthly Eigard last May. My first shot swelled up, was bright red, and hot to the touch for 3 days. Afterwards I had a big bruise that stretched across my abdomen. Since then the swelling has decreased dramatically. However, the nurse administering the shot makes a big difference in the injection site SE's. There is one nurse in the unit that I always have more swelling when she implants the med.
I use ice for 15 minutes before and for another 15 minutes after the implant, and that helps a lot.
I've not detected a strange taste, but I am sometimes more emotion the first couple of days following the implant.
Those are interesting SEs , especially the thin skin part. I haven’t seen that but I’ll keep it in mind if this happens. The big rashes don’t happen often but are serious when they do. I use hydrocortisone with some success. Mouse Adam’s thoughts about the implant stimulating a small shingles outbreak is interesting as well. I’ve thought some outbreaks do look like shingles , generally they happen soon after an implant. This is my 1st 6 month implant , I’ll have to wait and see if more outbreaks happen.
Is your testosterone in a castrate range? If your testosterone is low than maybe no. 6 months is really long time. Could you, would you switch to monthly firmagon (degarelix) injections? That would be the best for you.
I am testing everytime my PSA plus testosterone. I believe you should do the same. Degarelix is considered a next step if your current ADT is failing. It may work better.
this might be out in left field… hubby got shingles after taking some drugs. Due to stress on the immune system. And yes even if you took the shots you could still get shingles more than once.
Mild cases can look like a rash. It too will go away. It also hurts like hell because it irritates the nerves.
