My alternative therapy for SCA1.
My name is Joe Peck. I am 53 years old and in 2013 I tested positive for the SCA1 genetic mutation. I am neither a doctor nor a researcher, but I do have a strong background in science and graduated with honors from Dartmouth College. Over the last several years I have read hundreds of research papers

Librium - any experiences?
I've just had an emergency appointment with my psychiatrist who has prescribed this. Although it is an older drug and less prescribed, he feels it is 'smoother' and has a longer half life than valium. (He is a very good psych. and I value his judgement). It's to help my rolling panic attacks after I

Low stomach acid,
Can anyone explain how low stomach acid impacts on B12 absorption? I have carried out the home experiment using bicarbonate of soda first thing in the morning which shows I am lacking in stomach acid. I wondered if this would have an affect on B12 absorption. Thank you in advance.

When is a 'Treat' not a Treat and can you tell what this is by the ingredients? 😊
Hi folks, as its National nutrition month and it was on the news this morning that the UK needs to go on a diet and one of the problems was the low quality of the 'product' by product they mean the food that people are buying to fuel their bodies. So what is a treat? it implies a reward and something

Hello When I was diagnosed last July I only received my dexa and letter through the post. ‘Lifestyle recommendations ‘ - none. Just offered AA, which, so far, I have refused. Not offered calcium or Vit d. In April I had had a Vit D test, among many blood tests, as I had cancer treatment in 2016. My Vit

not sure what to put to be honest, I used to be a carer for my brother and mum, both had depression and drinking/ drug problems. My brother has schizophrenia but was smart enough to evade any treatment and get out of sections. I helped them both and had to bottle everything up for around 10 years and

Not sure
Part of me really would like to go off meds, and I do, ever so often. Does anyone just wonder after a while what is under there, under the meds? I dont think they are helping but I don't want to make a terrible mistake. Ive been on Zyprexa for many years. Abilify for a while. Just got on Lithium.

Back in hospital again!!
After another disastrous 2 weeks Home leave where I literally didn’t get out of bed, and a bad court hearing, I’ve been readmitted, diagnosed with major depressive disorder. They’ve put me on trazodone and lithium in a last ditch attempt to sort me out and discharge me. I’m now on venlafaxine, aripiprazole

A Couple of Tips...
....on this Sunday morn.... I've been indulging in a kind of 'self' experiment trying to understand why oxygen (which I don't use much of) makes me feel sluggish and outright BAD when I try to use it anything like according to doc's instructions. As mentioned, I don't use it much especially when I'm

High risk of PPP - Meds & Bottle Feeding
I met with a Perinatal Psychiatrist yesterday who explained that the risk of me getting PPP is high, and it’s likely to be very severe if it happens. I’m currently well, and not taking any medication. To reduce the risk of PPP, he suggested I take lithium and low dose of haloperidol about two months

I need help deciding on medication
On Monday I have to decided what to take for my PTSD, generalised anxiety disorder and servere depression. I’ve been offered to try Latuda or Prozac and lithium, because I’ve previously been on antidepressants, mood stabilisers and antipsychotics before and I get manic switch and I’m super sensitive

Weaning off meds
Hi everyone it has been a long and difficult journey since my sister was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis on Jan 2017. After different meds, 3 admissions to the psychiatric unit and about 13 sessions of ECT...my sister was finally stable and acting much like herself again since July 2017. At that

Low dose Lithium
Hi, Is it true that even low dose lithium, say 2.5mg a day, can affect thyroid and also impede NDT absorption and effect? Is there any medical research to support this? I have had conflicting reports about this, many people saying that really low dose is ok. My lithium levels are through the floor so
