Why insulin given from external source helps in controlling blood sugar in diabetes type 2.
It is generally believed that DM type2 is caused due to insulin resistance and cellular insensitivity to insulin.

Organic food
I am diabetic 2 patient since 14 years. Recently I started taking organic food, despite regular walking and excercise, my Sugar level hiked from 145 to 167. Is it on account of organic food? Medication is on ( Zoryl-M1 & Janumet 50/500) each after lunch.

Beta cells of pancreas produce another hormone, apart from insulin which has an important role in blood sugar regulation.
Very little is generally known about another hormone co produced with insulin by the beta cells of pancreas. The hormone first reported in 1987 and is called "AMYLIN". The secretory and plasma concentration profiles of insulin and AMYLIN are similar with low fasting concentration and increases in response

Metformin use linked to risk of low thyroid hormone levels
This story is doing the rounds today - one version in Daily Mail, another in the Express. I thought this slightly more serious and complete article appropriate to post here. [i]Metformin is a drug commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes by controlling the amount of sugar in the blood. Now, a new study

Artificial sweeteners induce glucose intolerance by altering the gut microbiota?
Looks like the massive consumption of sweeteners needs to be debated. A study published in the journal Nature shows a connection between the use of sweeteners and a higher risk of developing glucose intolerance - when the body does not produce enough insulin - first stage of diabetes . The conclusion

When More is Not Always Good - Walking & Running
Running just 5 minutes a day is enough. This is even for a low paced running at 10 minutes to a mile, which means 1.6 km. Whey protein could help tackle diabetes!
Consuming whey protein before meals reduces the blood sugar spikes seen after meals. It also improves the body's insulin response. High milk intake has long been associated with lower risk for type2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease . Milk whey protein increases the production of an intestinal hormone

Anyone tried intestinal cleansing/pranayama to lower blood sugar?
While there are numerous peer-reviewed studies on the effect of pranayama on blood sugar, can anyone point me to any such study on shankaprakshalana (a yogic way of intestinal cleaning involving drinking 4-5 litres of water)? In recent times, Swami Ramdev has been popularising this old approach (which
