high cholesterol: can anyone shed some light i... - Thyroid UK
high cholesterol
HDL/LDL ratio perhaps..
If you are hypothyroid, it is a clinical symptom and should reduce down with sufficient levothyroxine or T3 we don't need other medications to reduce it.
High cholesterol is one of the main indicators for under active thyroid and should settle when you are taking the right amount of thyroxine. There is NO SUCH thing as good or bad cholesterol you need it all for your body to function correctly. Cholesterol is a major factor in the production of Co-Enzyme Q10 which is essential for replacing worn out body cells.
There are two types of cholesterol - LDL (bad) and HDL (good). LDL is called "bad" because it's linked to plaque formation in blood vessels and thus narrowing of these vessels. HDL cholesterol is called "good" because it helps remove LDL from the blood stream. So high HDL is fine.
thanks i have high HDL and only slightly high LDH and i do not want to start taking statins I have upped my levo dose so maybe my cholesterol will lower if my medication is optimal ?
