Who Knew???
My husband went into the hospital for an elective hip replacement. Four days later he was on a ventilator because of gall bladder major infection. Came off ventilator 13 days later unable to swallow at all. Everyone, including the doctors, thought it was a temporary thing caused by the tube in his windpipe

Chronic pain
I've had a lifetime of struggle with a congenital hip, finally at the age of 47 I had to give in and have a total hip replacement this was to be a new lease of life to me! The only warning was NOT to lengthen my leg from a professor, you guessed it the surgeon in his wisdom ignored that fact and lengthened

Hip replacement recall and metalosis
I have just had my hip replacement recalled. It is said to cause metalosis. I am at a loss as what to do! My Dr. says just to monitor my blood levels for now. I am afraid of what this will do to the progression of my Parkinson's. I really don't want to wait until I have metalosis...but revision

Waiting in Clinics
As you know, I tend to ramble on about medical stuff, but someone recently posted the need to sometimes keep things a bit more lighthearted. I just saw this story: Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip

Using ultrasound when you have hip replacements (also MRI)
I've just bought ban ultrasound unit for home use. It says it is not to be used near metal implants. I have low back and sciatic pain. I think central low back should be fine, but I'm wondering about the outer side of my thigh? Also, has anyone had a lumbar MRI when they have had two hip replacements

New - osteoarthritis, back problems, ? polymyalgia rheumatica, ? fibromyalgia
Hi - I'm Ann. I'm nearly 67 and have had osteoarthritis for about 10 years. I've had two successful hip replacements. I've also had steroid injections and radio-frequency ablation for lower back problems, and am going back to the pain clinic on 9th April. Several years ago I had what was diagnosed

Communication! Isn't it a good thing?
Well, my Duke orthopedist's office has answered my questions. Hooray! ! And so today I was equipped with a list of what the orthopedist plans to inject me. Thus I was able to ask my allergist's opinion about whether my body is likely to play nice with these drugs . He does not think I will have

newly diagnosed hiv. who have i infected and how do i tell them??
ok a month ago I was diagnosed stage 4 hiv/ aids. Now from what i have read it has taken between 6 to 10 years for me to reach stage 4, remember apart from a flu like syptom when you first get infected there are very few clues that you are ill untill stage four. Now fortunately when aids first

OA causes? Does it matter?
I have, as many of you know, been fighting hip arthritis for 15 years. MRI reveals that there is bone on bone places now which prompts all the docs who see it to point and say "See. Time for surgery." And yes, I know it probably is time for surgery. My Duke rheumy wants me to try steroid injections

Co-morbid arthritis and fibromyalgia or PMR?
I've had two hip replacements for osteoarthritis and have arthritic changes in my spine, and two arthritic toes following injury, and sciatica probably disc-related. However I have other pains which seem very different. Particularly in the morning on getting up, or after sitting, I'm recently having
