Barium was normal, why do I need Gastroscopy?
Hi - my barium swallow was normal, so I am just wondering why the consultant said I could have a motility problem caused by the Raynaud's, and have to have the camera down? Got my appt now, I go on Thurday. Will choose sedation. Thanks for all your previous replies, much appreciated.

Where can I find up to date medical articles/info/research about which treatments are best and their frequency?
I am newly diagnosed (although had a loading dose of B12 injections at about 23 but then was told I didn't require any more) I'm 31 now and having injections of hydroxocobalamin every other day for a week, then 3 monthly. I am just wondering if 3 monthly is enough and if it isn't where can I find the

Gastroscopy / colonoscopy on Saturday!
Thought I would blog today. I saw a GE (gastroenterologist) Consultant on 5 Feb. Didn't really feel that confident after the meeting. 20 minutes of talk, and then he dictated his letter to my GP for 10 minutes. Not had that experience before and over the last 3 years been going to the Nuffield Orthopaedic

early days post op
My husband had a total gastrectomy on the 8th of Jan 2012 - quickly followed on the 11th Jan a surgery as his bowel had risen and popped through his diaphram and fused with his lungs. This then caused pneumonia. He has been home since 21st of Jan. Things seemed ok for the first few days with a little

Does anyone else have a persistent sore mouth that they think is associated with reflux?
Having developed reflux since my gastroscopy, I am plagued with a sore mouth - red tongue and roof of mouth. Lansoprazole and omeprazole have both made this worse, so I feel I can't medicate for the reflux. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

See below - Barrett's after oesophagectomy
I'm 18months post op from my Oesophagectomy. Had a Gastroscopy two weeks ago which showed a return of Barretts Oesophagus on the remaining piece that my stomach is attatched to. My consultant says it's low risk at present and i will have 6 monthly Gastroscopys to check on it. Also, if it does get nasty

Hello :)
Eating compromises my lung function, and I receive the majority of my calories through 24hr
gastrostomy
feed. This means the slightest whiff of an exacerbation in my asthma and everything goes belly up! One of my allergies is grass, which would be the one which has a long season lol.

Pylorus Sphincter very tight. What are my options?
I have been offered a gastroscopy and during that scope the specialist will decide on whether to dilate or give me botox. I have read a lot about the botox and i don't have much faith in that it will work for long. But the specialist says that he wants to try this first and since i am due to see the

Are there any distance runners with coeliac disease here?
Hello, I am due to go in for a colonoscopy and Gastroscopy at the end of this month. From my symptoms I am almost certain that I have developed Coeliac disease. I have been running for over 30 years and regularly compete in Marathons and other races. I noticed that I was struggling on my runs about

Gastric reflux
I have always thought there was a relationship between my burping and my distended stomach with my asthma. When it was worse my asthma was worse. Finally I was sent for a gastroscopy and the consultant said I had a bad case of bile reflux and he has put me on domperidone with another appointment in

Thanks for sharing
Thanks to everyone who has written about stretches and ppi medication in the past. I have just returned from hospital where I had a little stretch. Some inflammation was seen so I have to see my GP to get a prescription for "high dose of PPI for one month then repeat gastroscopy" I wasn't aware of reflux

New poll on age at diagnosis
I thought it would be helpful if I explained the background as to why we have set the latest poll. It is to do with earlier diagnosis and how this affects the chances of successful treatment. The Department of Health are planning an awareness campaign to raise awareness about oesophagogastric cancer

Monitoring after diagnoses of acid reflux.
IN 2006 I had a gastroscopy because I found food 'sticking' in my oesphagus. I was told that there were no abnormalities but that it appeared I was suffering from gastric reflux - and omeprazole was prescribed. The omeprazole worked like magic - and my eating returned to normal. Two weeks after that

Secondaries.
Appointment with my consultant at the hospital in Newcastle yesterday. Results of bone & CT scans. Tumours have appeared in my left shoulder, spine & several places in my Liver. I had a bit of warning about the Liver, but the bone was out of the blue. Explains the shoulder/back pain at least. Consultant
