Last year in April 2012 my mom underwent total gastrectomy. She lost around 10 kgs weight post operation but was doing okayuntil the last month. She has been complaining she doesn't feel like eating food but at the same time her stomach area or where her stomach was before the operation feels empty...She was due for biopsy this week
My mom had her endoscopy & CT scan do... - Oesophageal & Gas...
My mom had her endoscopy & CT scan done last week -some legions in the liver but yesterday night she vomited blood & is in hospital. .
People who have had a gastrectomy often do not feel 'full' or 'hungry' because the nerves and other part so the stomach that create those sensations have disappeared / been cut. So it probably is not any more serious than that. Eating by habit, little and often is probably the best thing, and not to worry about becoming a new normal weight.
Lesions in the liver is more serious, and it will require specialist examination. Vomiting blood is a traumatic experience which also needs proper medical care in hospital, but the cause could be a variety of things.
Dear madc,
I had my Ivor Lewis last October and following the final 3 cycles of chemo therapy a CT scan showed a lesion in my liver. Further MRI and PET scans confirmed the lesion in my liver but also showed that there appeared to be no further spread. I was therefore referred to a liver surgeon who agreed to perform liver resection surgery to remove the metastatic deposit, which she did 5 weeks ago.
Unfortunately it did mean another operation but I am recovering well and hope that I am now clear.
Just make sure your mother follows all options and if necessary gets a second opinion.
All my very best wishes and prayers, Phil.
