Tapering following new PMR diagnosis
Hi, so glad I found this wonderful forum, I've learned so much in the past 2 weeks. My question concerns tapering and levels of pain that can be "ignored". I am 70 years old and until the middle of March was a fit walker, gardener and could still reach to cut my own toenails. I was lucky enough to

New to the group
Hi. I am 59 years old and I was diagnosed with PMR in February by my primary care physician after a year of pain and many doctors. I have the added complication of having a bleeding disorder, so no NSAIDS, or supplements like turmeric or fish oil. I chose to not go on Prednisone at the time I was diagnosed

Gum boil and surgery
Has anyone here had a gum boil that required surgery? My situation has developed as the result of a fall back in the 1980s that broke my jaw. Now I have severe bone loss in the area around a tooth near the jaw break and have developed this gum boil at the surface which implies infection underneath.

Any Treatment Options?
I was diagnosed 3 years ago with Lupus/Sjrogens/Hughes (already had Hashimotos's) This came on or was triggered after being hospitalised with severe Neurological Lyme Disease where I was hospitalised for many months and with nursing care at home for nearly 2 years back in 2009 - I never really got better

CBD oil - hints, tips and general advice?
So after thinking about it for a while I have plunged in and ordered some CBD oil to try to see if it helps with pain relief especially at night so I can come off the amitriptalyne and also for migraines. Since I reacted really badly to myco I’m currently not on any lupus meds so need something to take

Why are docs so eager to get us off prednisone?
Is it possible they “want you off it” to avoid deterioration of hips and knees? My mom had PMR and got avascular necrosis and had a hip replaced. I cannot believe the number of joint replacements that the good people on this forum have collected. WAY above the norm, IMO. That’s why I’m TRYING to stay

Chickenpox
I’m a nanny and at work today I had three of the children off with chickenpox. I’ve never really given it much thought, I’ve taken care of children with chickenpox before. But should I be concerned? Am I likely to catch it? I had it as a child so I’m assuming I’m immune but googling hasn’t set my mind

Is it possible to stay at CKD stage 3 or will my kidneys keep getting worse?
I recently discovered I have stage 3 ckd, GFR 56. I’ve since made major changes to my diet while I wait to meet with a dietitian this week. My goal is to try a plant based diet. My kidneys were damaged by the use of NSAID’s because of injuries received while on deployment. I’m 60 years old, 145 lbs,

Vitamin B12 as a Treatment for Pain
Found this new paper and was interested to see some work being done. Sadly, it just reviews existing data. (Oddly, it uses the term hydroxycobalamin, which is much less common. Indeed, MESH adds hydroxocobalamin automatically on PubMed searches - and there are many times more papers referring to hydroxocobalamin

PMR and the shingles vaccination
Diagnosed with PMR in January this year having had symptoms from last October 2018. On 30th August 2018 I had the Zostavax shingles vaccination. Having looked on line I have found a Safety information for Zostavax from Merck vaccines who produce the vaccine. It states 'serious vaccine- related adverse

Systemic Inflammatory Syndrome (SIS) in Advanced Prostate Cancer
When I was first being diagnosed, my inital presentation was fever, night sweats, pain all over my body and high blood inflammation markers such as ESR. Because of these symptoms, the diagnosis of prostate cancer was delayed as we suspected other causes. When the symptoms started to appear, I was taking

Does PMR “cause” OA, etc.?
It seems so many PMR sufferers “finish their treatment” only to find that they now have other painful conditions like osteoarthritis that they “didn’t have” before being diagnosed with PMR. I fear I fit into this category. Since ending prednisone 3 1/2 months ago, I have had (non-symmetrical) shoulder

WHO Analgesic pain ladder
Hi, this is for one of the members, and anyone else interested in the World Health Organisation Analgesic 3- step pain ladder. This was developed in 1986 for pain management of cancer patients but is widely used today for general pain management. As you can see the lowest and mildest level are non-opiods

Desperate
I've had RLS for quite a few years but since my spinal surgery it's 24/7 instead of just at night, I can't sit and watch TV, I can't go to a movie, I can't ride in the car, and I can't enjoy life. I'm about ready to go out of my mind. After my surgery, part of my left leg is numb and I seem to get

Is it ok to say I hurt?
In the US it seems now if you tell your doctor your hurt you get a stanky face. Due to all the folks looking for drugs it makes it hard for others to get help. I have a very high pain tolerance so when I say I hurt it's gotten really bad. I'm in a bad spot in that. I have CKD a cant take NSAIDs and limited
