Hello admin.. I just wondered if you should remove or have the title changed on the post regarding measles as without reading further it could be interpreted as downplaying measles? I could not post response as you had blocked replies but post still in place. Just a thought!

Titles of threads are perforce short; or sometimes deliberately written in an eye-catching way to attract members' interest, much as newspaper headlines are written. Surely, if someone is taking a thread's title verbatim, especially where it seems to be controversial, ironic, humorous, or just plain 'wrong', without bothering to read the detail of the post and the responses to it, in order to learn more about the message behind the title, that's their choice or their problem? We are adults, we don't need to be nannied in the way you suggest, surely? And where would it end? There are any number of threads with titles in the vein of "Giving up", "Giving up, had enough", "Giving up and giving in" that might be taken literally and be perceived erroneously, as implying the writers are contemplating suicide ...... should those titles all be modified or deleted to prevent distress or avoid others being misled?

I saw the post and purposely scrolled on without reading because it smacked of yet another anti vac post which personally I believe have no place on the forum.

In which case you might suggest to the admin that removing the right to reply is nannying? The examples you give such as ‘giving up’ are capable of having multiple interpretations and not a blunt statement. The article was interesting but the title gave a wrong impression and there are enough vaccine deniers basing their knowledge on misinformation without adding to this. I prefer good science and statistical analysis but having found several intelligent people saying they should get anti-biotics when they have flu and one recently saying that lumpectomies should not be performed as they had known people who went on to die makes me worry .

As far as I am aware, the post was closed because it was completely off topic for a thyroid forum, it wasn't a case of nannying. This is a very busy forum and to keep it running smoothly we should stick to topics that are thyroid related, we can't clog it up with off topic posts.

I agree.. would be best to remove completely than leave with a provocative title and no right to reply. And it wasn’t me that actually mentioned nannying!!
