LCHF/Keto junk food
Hi all. How's everyone doing? Not normally one for any processed food at all, I have been uncharacteristically buying some keto "junk food" recently. This (ridiculously expensive!!) loaf of keto bread, made mainly of almonds and eggs, is actually really good, and very low carb at 3.5g per 100g.

I strongly believe in doing everything to avoid inflammation generally. Stop all processed foods, no seed oils and restrict or complete avoid grains (wheat, rice, corn etc) and go on a low carbohydrate diet. We all need to have a healthy glycocalyx which is the slimy lining of our blood vessels. look

Gluten-free diet and vitamin D uptake in patients with Hashimoto disease
This paper demonstrates that gluten-free diets with Hashimoto's may have an influence on vitamin D uptake. Just a thing to be aware of. Gluten-free diet attenuates the impact of exogenous vitamin D on thyroid autoimmunity in young women with autoimmune thyroiditis: a pilot study October 2022

Change to Thyroid Tests after 40 years of the same dose of Throxine
I am having a battle with my GP. Diagnosed with underactive thyroid when I was 26 and I am now 70 and for past 40 years have been on 150 thyroxine which worked perfectly for me. In April 21 I got diagnosed with PMR and put on 15 mg of steroids. I eat a low carb diet, take Vit D and have done a slow transition

Panic (in the streets of Birmingham)
Couldn’t resist this allusion to a song by the Smiths and I do live in Birmingham (not Alabama!). I was surprised when asking for a search to be done on our site how few posts there were with Panic in the title. I’m panicking quite a lot recently due to obvious progression of the disease. I’m panicking

Newbie Hypothyroid - looking for advice please
Hi I was diagnosed low thyroid in August and given 25mcg levothyroxin. I felt a bit better after taking it. I am a self employed single parent with two disabled children. I have not been able to work very much for over eight months now and the house and garden are in a horrendous state. Nothing

Oh dear!
After gastroscopy I have been sticking to a dairy and gluten free diet, managed to get down to 3.5mg Prednisolone and was doing really well but with increasing pain , I'm back up to 5mg. Do I contact GP they seem to have forgotten me? Or persevere on my own!

Great results this week
I was really pleased with the results of my annual Senior Checkup this past week. After a long lapse during Covid and lockdown, eating cakes and biscuits etc and obviously putting on weight, I went back to the LCHF lifestyle a few months ago and not only have I lost over a stone in weight (18 lbs)

DBS Surgery #2, a personal essay
DBS Surgery #2 by Gary Turchin On Nov 12, 2020, a good eight months into the pandemic, I found myself checking in to Kaiser Hospital, Redwood City, for brain surgery. I arrived at the hospital in terrible pain. I had stopped taking my medications for Parkinson

WHY DIETING IS ALSO INSISTED UPON FOR DIABETICS WHILE UNDER MEDICATION?
Once diagnosed as diabetic, doctors prescribe drugs either to induce secretions of insulin or correct the varied qualities of insulin secreted, depending on the exact cause. It is accepted that it is not a disease caused by any foreign bodies but a condition that arose as the consequence of a reduced

I saw my first neuro after over five years
Today I saw the MDD who diagnosed me in august 2017. Before him I saw other doctors who could not figure what I had. So after over five years I saw him again. That time my score was 17 and today 23. He was surprised to find out my progression was very small. I told him I think the Thiamine helped me

Coping with heat
I need your advice my friends. We live in the north of England and rarely get a heatwave but this summer we had 2 and my HWP, who is in his 29th year of diagnosis, really suffered. I looked on HU and saw this can be a problen in PD. I told him what I had read and dealt with it with fans and cold packs

Has anyone experienced muscle pain in your arms, legs, etc. after DBS? Do settings have anything to do with it?

Normal Meds: is this it?!
I say normal because up until recently I’ve used a cocktail of normal (Rasagaline, Requip and Madopar) alongside Mucuna. The Mucuna was my go to stuff if I needed an immediate lift as it worked so quickly. But I promised my neuro that I’d leave it out: it’s difficult to measure and rationalise when he
