Big step forward
Today I am driving down to Portsmouth to take part in the Great South Run on Sunday. In August 2019 I began my running journey by starting C25k, combining my graduation run with my first parkrun in November 2019. Since then I have run 3 times a week, running in as many parkruns as I could. When lockdown

Accuracy of estimated fetal weight?
Hi All Am 35+2wks and my growth scan today estimated a jaw dropping fetal weight of 7lb 13oz! (now!). Knew we were expecting a big baby but that was way higher that we could imagine, with >95% abdominal circumference. But I also know these estimates can really over egg it (a friend’s actual baby weight

Wasn't sure whether to post this here but decided to just incase others have some opinions. Off to see the Dr in an hour with a long list. It doesn't sit well with me to go with a long list and urgently. Anyway am going. Am over the non specific virus as far as I am aware. No fevers for over a week

I completed C25k three years ago and progressed to 10k, although always with some short walking breaks. I lost a fair bit of weight last year, and although still not where I want to be I’m feeling the benefit. Being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last November made things really tricky and I was very

Effects of Intermittent Fasting on the Circulating Levels and Circadian Rhythms of Hormones
Obesity is a frequent topic. And there has considerable discussion about various ways of managing eating in order to help control weight. Of these, one of the most discussed in recent years has been intermittent fasting and variations. In that context, several times members have asked about the relationship

Gabapentin not working as yet
Hi Ive been on gabapentin for 5 weeks now. I previously posted saying my doctor had prescribed 100mgs 3 times daily. I was advised on forum as I thought, that this dose was useless, and I'd be better taking at night and upping dose gradually. So I'm now to to 900mgs at night but still not seeing

Cooler mornings and numbness go hand in hand?
I was wondering if anyone else suffers with numbness in their hands as the temperature drops towards the last days of summer, and we begin into autumn? I suffer with neuropathy, but also get a B12 injection every 3 months, I never have had any formal diagnosis why I get the injections, but I have had

Happy Labor Day Weekend PC Warriors: First, I want to thank all of you for your wonderful input and encouragement during my 5 sessions of Docetaxel. I survived, my PSA for the last 3 months has come down to 0.2 from 15.5. Exercising like crazy to try to get my strength back and it seems to be working

High BMI at risk of diabetes. New plan
After ready some of the amazingly supportive responses I now have a plan to eventually run 5K. I'm not officially obese but my BMI is really high and borderline diabetic. I tried doing the running last year and got to week 5. I've put more weight on since and just can't get going. From tomorrow morning

Diabetes UK predict there will be 5.5 million in the UK with type 2 Diabetes by 2030!
Hi everyone, I heard this on the news this morning and think that it's a shocking statistic as there are so many other health risks once someone has developed type 2 diabetes. Here's the article: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/professionals/position-statements-reports/statistics I'd like to remind members

Proctitis flare - how best to manage
Hi there, Wondering if anyone can give some advice on how best to tackle a proctitis flare up. There is lots of info online but being a CKD-er (Chronic Kidney Disease) I've found great advice from those living with the condition on HealthUnlocked. Brief(ish!) history 57 year old male. Had my first

Measuring fasting blood glucose on waking in the morning
I want to measure my fasting blood glucose and figured that taking a reading after getting (but before food or medication) is a good time. However I have read that various overnight effects can cause a "dawn phenomenon" in which blood glucose is artificially raised. How long should I wait after waking

Type 1 diabetes Phase 1 trial of the dietary supplement HAMSAB (high-amylose maize resistant starch modified with acetate and butyrate)
Yes, I know it's targeting T1D, but I'm wondering if they would need to change very much if they were to run a similar trial for PD? "Changes in gut microbiota composition, function, and immune profile following six weeks of HAMSAB supplementation were associated with increased SCFAs in stools and plasma

Leave No Stone: Noni Juice (Morinda citrifolia)
Somebody on FB had a link to a Noni Juice Cures PD page (they were selling Noni Juice) so I figured I would look for some science behind it. I will probably add this to my diet. Morinda citrifolia mitigates rotenone-induced striatal neuronal loss in male Sprague-Dawley rats by preventing mitochondrial

Role and Mechanism of Gut Microbiota in Human Disease 2021
Full article: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fcimb.2021.625913/full Despite the findings of an increased Bifidobacterium in PD, a study showed that a decrease in Bifidobacterium later in disease may be able to predict whether PD stage is going to deteriorate or not. This implicates that

Strange leg pain
Last night when I was in bed, I rolled over and suddenly felt an ache down the outside of my left calf. It felt the way you do when you have overworked a muscle. I was going to get up to get some magnesium spray downstairs, but when I began to walk I felt incredible pain--the kind you feel when a muscle

Does Prednisolone affect Cholesterol levels and blood pressure??
Hi. Back in February (pre PMR) my cholesterol was HDL - 1.5 and LDL 3.8. Six months later (four months after commencing Pred) my levels are now HDL - 2.4 and LDL - 5.0!! My levels have never moved by much over the years and this was something of a shock particularly as it has happened so quickly.
