Elevated platelets low ferritin - any advice?
Hi all, Just a query in case anyone can help. I have been barking up so many trees recently (see my other posts) and I am finally starting to get somewhere with getting a private endo to look at my hypothyroid type symptoms (feeling cold, low basal temp, severe mental fog, multi-joint and muscle pain

B12 Deficiency - Evaluating Cognitive Disfunction
Helvella recently posted this very important link, which could be another vital tool in the battle for B12 treatment - reading it made me wonder why our family had to fight so hard for our relative to obtain B12 tests and treatment after wrongly diagnosed dementia & ME when this information was out there

Need help with weird iron blood test results
Hi I've been hypo for about 2 years and am now on 175mcg thyroxine with a suppressed TSH of 0.03. I've had ongoing issues with very low ferritin which doesn't rise much on supplementation. My levels from last week's blood test were: Ferritin 19ug/L 9 (15-200) LOW Iron 39umol/L (10-30) ABNORMALLY HIGH

Are my iron/b12/folate/ferritin ok?
Hi, On the advice of some very helpful people on here I got a print out of my results. Doc doesn't think I need supplements other than the vit D she gave. The results are within range, but I've read on here that they should be higher than they are for Levothyroxine to work effectively. I'm now on 50

Very weak after losing a lot of blood
Following heart surgery five months ago (two more stents fitted to coronary arteries) l was prescribed a very strong anti platelet drug called Ticagrelor. The alarming side effects to this drug put me in hospital and I lost a lot of blood from both my prostate and a pierced bladder which was damaged

Help with results please
Hi, here are my recent bloods. Please could you give any advice. I'm on 150mcg Levo. Been treated for last 14 years (I'm 37). GP wants to reduce my thyroxine even though I have no hyper symptoms and still some hypo symptoms. I also take Vit D and Berroca daily. TSH 0.01 FT4 18.7 (11.00 - 22.60) FT3

Red or blushing skin...full body
Had a fright last night...my whole body and face was bright red, like I had been mildy sun-burned all over. Felt a bit like that too. I have been looking at allodynia re my parathesias - also wondered if It might be a sign of over- medicated or antibody flare up. The best way to describe is niacin

Latent iron difficiency ... Ferritin 5 for 3 years. Anyone come across this?
Finally got the go ahead for iron infusions for my chronically low ferritin level. I asked what was causing it and the consultant said that it wasn't necessarily blood loss ( stock diagnosis for most females in their late 40's) but could possibly be that I just use up my iron too quickly and therefore

Ridged nails - dermatologist diagnosis
Dermatologist said my nail condition was washboard nails also known as fungal paronychia, but looking at the images for each of these shows a different type of effect on the nails. Mine resembles the washboard images which is due to picking at the cuticles, which I do. The fungal paronychia is due to

Syndol/Hypothyroid?
I have just read that Syndol (an over the counter painkiller) should be used with caution in hypo people. Does anyone know why that might be? The ingredients are: paracetamol, codeine phosphate, doxylamine succinate and caffeine. Unfortunately, the original Syndol have been available for ages due to

Positive parietal cell antibody
After eventually seeing a neurologist with regard to my tingling limbs, I have today received a copy of a letter he sent to my GP. He says that the MRI scan was normal, so pleased about that. However, he then says, quote: "I note she as a positive parietal cell antibody and that some provisional blood

Iron?
My lovely GP ran the tests I asked for and Ferritin came back at 127 <15-300>. Is that a bit low? I am sure I read here that to utilise thyroid hormones it needs to be mid range at least, which would be 157. B12 and folate were both well above range - the subject for an imminent chat with GP - so how

Vagus nerve stimulation Radi4 program
I listened to "Frontier" on Radio 4 last Tuesday @ 21:00. It was about inflammatory disease and alternatives to DMARDs and biological drugs. There are trials happening in the USA and Europe which look very promising. It might be worth listening to the program on IPlayer if you are interested. This is
