Anyone Working on Dialysis?
I'm 57 and have stage 4 CKD. They have found no "official" cause. I have T2 diabetes, but it is considered in control (or it was until they stopped my metformin) and I have no other diabetes related conditions. I have lived without a colon for 27 years and am often dehydrated. On July 4, 2020 I got a

Hi guys. I'm new to 'health unlocked', & am trying to resolve the problem of not being able to sleep during my nighttime transfer. I have been on PD for two years, the first 18 months of which worked with no problems at all, then I gradually started to have problems dropping off to sleep & staying asleep.I

Stage 4 ckd with Congestive Heart Failure
I was in the hospital last month for my CHF. Lungs were filling with fluid and couldn't breathe. I am 47 years old. They checked my kidney function as I also have CKD. My eGFR was at 23 and ejection fraction of the heart at 22% They took me off my Lisinopril because of my kidneys and replaced it with

Dialysis Unit Too Cold
My husband has been on dialysis for 21 years and it didn’t just happen, it came from doing what was right and listening to his body. He knows when he has infections on board and the doctors listen to him and treat him for it before it gets worse. His problem now is a certain technician that’s going through

Recurring pneumonia in PT dialysis
My husband is on peritoneal dialysis. He has a kidney donor but we have been fighting pneumonia for 9 months now and its holding up the transplant. He recently had a broncoscope done to help with diagnosis as antibiotics were not working. Inconclusive results. Were told to wait 3 months and do another

WOULD NEVER ASK SOMEONE TO DONATE A KIDNEY FOR ME!
Haven't been on in awhile. While doing the testing to get on transplant list, a suspicious mass in right kidney was found. Had to get an MRI and then CT Biopsy which showed renal cell crcinoma. Because of Corona Virus couldn't have surgery for 3 month. The surgeon took out my right kidney on 07/

PD -what are the cons (everyone talks about the pros) other than infection?
I prefer Peritoneal Dialysis over Hemo and talked to several Kidney advocates and nurses. All talk about the pros compared to Hemo. Except for infection I have not heard many other risks or discomforts from direct patients. Would like to hear from and connect with anyone who is currently on PD or has

Husband beat covid - home after 123 days.
My previously fit, active, healthy 59 year old husband was admitted to ICU on 4th of April with covid. After 17 weeks in hospital we welcomed him home yesterday. He was in ICU for 9 weeks (6 weeks on a ventilator), had a tracheostomy, took a month to wake up after sedation was stopped, had a major trachey

Heparin free dialysis?
Hi, I hope all is well. This week, my dear mom has started encountering blood clots in her dialysis filter. She already receives small doses of heparin to prevent clots due to being mostly immobile; however, there is a concern if they give her more heparin that could lead to some seriously bad bleeding

Big thank you
I am overwhelmed at the response to my question re dialysis or supportive care. The sharing you all did re your personal situations was inspiring and thought provoking. What a generous community. I thought I knew what I wanted but now see that much more research and study needs to be done by myself

Dialysis or supportive care
I am female, 72 years old with high b.p. and type 2 diabetes. My gfr is 17. Although not needing dialysis yet my kidney team has been providing me with great info on dialysis and supportive non dialysis. At this point, I am leaning toward non dialysis. I am wondering if anyone in this forum

Ckd and ammonia smell
When my level was in the low 30s and high 20s my sweat smelled awful. Like ammonia or cat pee. I don’t know if it’s because my level has fallen below 20 or diet or meds but now it doesn’t have a smell. Now it’s just excessive like Ive been out in the rain, just soaks thru all my clothes. Have to change

CKD with ANEMIA and STARTING RETACRIT
Hi everyone, I'm new here but certainly not new to CKD. The anemia started in 2008 and would come and go and attributed it to working for a cancer physician where getting lunch on a heavy chemotherapy patient day was next to impossible, and sometimes leaving work at a decent hour was out of the question

Its my turn to worry now
Well, after over two years of stable numbers, I had a 4 point drop in my GFR. My creatinine also went up. I am frustrated but I am not going to let that stop me. I feel fine and I asked my nephrologist to retest me in a month. All of my other labs look fine or stable. I have not had blood tests in
