Post Transplant psoriatic arthritis treatment
So, here goes! I'm 48 and just "celebrated" 3 years Kidney-versary September 14th! I have PKD and was having a lot of pain and other issues before, so even though I was still around 17% function I was listed for transplant. I was very fortunate though to have a living donor come forward to donate and

Anyone on peritoneal dialysis?
Hello, My father is 83 years old and his eGFR is now 8. The doctors want to start the process for home peritoneal dialysis overnight. We are feeling quite anxious as a family and I would appreciate your support. Can anyone offer their experiences on starting PD, physically and mentally how they feel

It's been eight months since I found out I will need a transplant
I made a post about eight months ago titled, "Just found out I need a kidney transplant" soon after I got the news. I was mostly worried at the time about whether my mom would be able to be my donor and who would take care of me/us after the surgery. I can now report, my mom cannot be my donor, and I

Fibrin in peritoneal dialysis drain fluid
Hi all! I’m back again with a concern regarding my dad who started PD in July. Recently he is having some fibrin (white chunky strands) in his drain fluid. I did some research on it and it’s associated with elevated fibrinogen in the plasma which is furthermore associated with bad outcomes in all of

Do we have to bandage out sites for the duration of having it? I did not like the belt so I use the lanyards for my catheter; they are more comfortable.

First time on dialysis
I should have posted this here. I did originally posted it in the site for dialysis. But if you are looking toward dialysis, you would be on this site first. So, this is my journal though my first time on dialysis. You can see the replies if you can get on the HealthUnlocked for Kidney Dialysis. I know

Feeling isolated & depressed
My 60-year-old husband is in renal failure, on nightly peritoneal dialysis, and on the transplant list. I've been feeling frustrated, anxious and isolated, and that often comes out in anger. Every day is the same: I work from home, take care of the dog, pay bills, do housework, and have dinner ready

Switching to home hemodialysis
I have been on peritoneal dialysis using a cycler, which has been wonderful, for two years. Unfortunately my clearance has been falling over the last four months and treatment increase in the amount of dextrose has caused me to gain nearly 30 lb. My clinic has me scheduled to begin training for home

Dialysis / RLS
Wow, this sub is a lot more active than the Kidney Disease sub, one would think it would be the other way around. I guess RLS is a lot more prevalent than people think? I never experienced or even heard of RLS before starting dialysis but boy did it hit me hard. It's already hard to sleep while doing

Insurance and transplant woes
I have two things yet to do to get back active on the list after being in the hospital for 2 months last fall. One is a discussion with the transplant nephrologist which since I live 3 hours away they said I could do as a telehealth. That was set up today after dialysis but before it started they

ANCA vasculitis & kidneys
Recently I developed red rashes (purpura) on my legs/thigh. Examined by a dermatogist as skin vasculitis I treated it with prescription meds and ointment. The rashes are now all gone in a week. But I recently learned that such a red rash "may" indicate ANCA vascultis in the glomeruli as a possible cause

Allergic to dialysis tape?
Is anyone else here allergic to, or irritated by, the paper tape that the dialysis lab technicians place on your arm during treatment? I get terrible red, itchy, painful, crusty rashes on the part of my arm where the tape adheres to. The clinic says they will try to special order silk tape for

Over 65? Newly low eGFR?
In the three years I've participated here I see many posts from new folks that do not include their age. Those of us with diagnosed CKD pipe up and offer suggestions for diet, labs, readings and more. All the advice can help to calm or scare new folks. We often fail to ask a simple question though,
