Hi Sri. I am so sorry that you are facing kidney failure. Have you shared your need with friends, family, communities or clubs that you are a part of? The Big Ask Big Give page on the National Kidney Foundation site may be helpful. You can find it at kidney.org/transplantation/.... Some of the tips they share are ones I used when I needed a kidney. It was uncomfortable for me to let people know at first so I told only very close family and friends. When there was still not a suitable donor, I let them share more widely. We eventually also made flyers with information about myself and my family, and we included links to information about living donation such as exploretransplant.org or kidney.org/transplantation. We inserted them in the church bulletin, emailed them to a few friends, and they shared it on social media.
You are a young working father with two kids. Life is a challenge for all of us right now, and for you, that's far more true. If you can, ask friends or family to share your story and allow others to connect with your need and situation and respond if they feel called to. You may be doing all of that already; keep on sharing. You never know who will consider donation after they learn more about it. I eventually got my kidney from someone I did not expect. It's been four years, and we're both doing very well. Just remember to take good care of yourself in the meantime. Take time out to walk, to rest, to ask for help with shopping or other errands. Stay connected with people who can support you, and when you can encourage those the dialysis clinic also. That all helps to stay positive as you continue this tough journey, but you are not alone. I wish you the best.
Sri, I donated a kidney to my younger brother Luis 3 years ago, he was pretty much in your same situation. He was a bit uncomfortable in asking others the Big Question, I encourage you to ask on socual media, put magnets on your car, make tshirts, etc. If you have a potential donor, please do not hesitate to have them reach out to me in order to describe to them about tue surgery, etc. Keep searching, your will find a donor.
