I see a dialysis surgeon and I would like to know what it like for you , and how come you didn't want to go to the dialysis center. Thank you for your time and support. Briana Knight
Hemodialysis : Hello my name is Briana I... - Kidney Dialysis
Hemodialysis
Hi Briana I’m Dave i did PD at ome o i wont be much help but im surethere are many peele ho can explain This to you god luck 🙏
Hi Briana, I'm Diana. I would also be interested in how Home Hemodialysis works. I'm not on on dialysis yet but have had a scan on my arm to check my vieins and am also going to have a check for Hemo although I would prefer PD. I am on a facebook group for Chronic Kidney disease. The group provides some very good information about both types of dialysis - it appears that PD is better all round for most people as its more gentle on your body.
Hi my husband did dialysis at home For a year because it was much more convenient. We lived in the country and we were 35 minutes away from the center. They send an aide to your house, and with my husband having trouble walking it was a great option. If I learned to give him the treatments then he could have had treatments on more than 3 days a week which might be easier on his body.
But we changed to going to a center for several reasons:
1. He was freezing during the treatment. The solution just never seemed to get warm enough.
2. The deliveries were a lot to manage. I set up a spreadsheet to track all the supplies- there were two pallets of product in my basement along with a lot of small items we had in a closet upstairs. I was always worried we would run out of something.
3. The aides they sent to our house were not nurses so with my husband many conditions it was a bit scary for us being out in the country.
4. I worked full time and was also very nervous to learn how to do the process, and never went through with training.
Since then we moved closer to the city to be closer to all medical centers and the center continues to be a wonderful option for us. During COVID it has been good for my husband to be able to see people three times a week, they are a nice community of people for him. And they are of course, garbed up! There is always one nurse there and he sees a dialysis doctor who comes in once per week. It is wonderful to have all the choices today. Good luck with your decision. And remember you can change later it one does not work out for you.
Oh I forgot to describe the process. Here it is as best as I can remember.
1. They visit the house and figure out is they can run a water line to a good spot or if you need to be near a seater source/drain. They ran a water line as we owned our home.
2. There were classes to take even if an aide is coming to your house to put you on and off.
3. A machine is delivered and installed
4. The night before the treatment I had to get a large bag of water from our basement and set up the machine to start making the dialysis solution- it mixes with a lot of water overnight.
5. Then you get out the items needed for the treatment, the filters, tubing, clips, cloths, gloves, it was like 15 or so items.
6. We chose to have the machine in our family room so my husband could watch tv and be in a comfy recliner for the treatment, and sleep easily if he wanted. His treatments tired him a bit.
7. I recommend not doing this on carpet! Our carpet got some blood and solution on it from time to time. It cleans up ok if you get it right away, but it can be a little messy when they take you off.
8. Then there is a a bit of trash that needs managed and because it contains blood they give you a special not for the trash company so they know it is in your trash.
9. There is a regular visit by a nurse but I think it was monthly? I cannot remember.
My husband has a central line used for his dialysis because his arms would not take the implanted tube, it just won’t work for him.
I am hopeful others can provide you more info!

Oh gosh! Scotland!! Yes it may be completely different!
hi quita my dad was going to a dialysis center and we couldnt afford the transportation to get him there so the davita center said they could do in home dialysis, so in order to do that youd have to go to a 8 week class 4 hours a day to learn how to do it and you cant do it your self, i would have to go to the class with my dad to learn how to administer it for him and they said he would be hooked up every night when he went to sleep and unhooked every day when he woke up and no days off. well were trying the class but im worried what happens if some thing goes wrong once were home, we will learn how to put the needle in and clean out the lines run the thing and to be honest if it will help the cost of the transportation which is 1600.00 a month for us then it would be good , but i am not a nurse and im nervous about it. just saying
