What's the one thing you would ask a friend or relative to bring in to someone in ICu?
HI,Posted previously about my Dad, he's making small slow improvements, very tired and says he's in agony (his hips and bottom mainly). We can understand him now, but he gets so tired, and he's still so weak (can barely move). Still on Dialysis and tube fed, begging for a drink as his mouth feels horrid

Hello
Hi all. My husband had kidney disease and we were given the option of Home PD or dialysis in a facility. Where can I find pros and cons for both. The physician says at home will need every day as opposed to three days a week... any information is greatly appreciated.

Making the Case for Home Dialysis
Many patients are not informed when they first begin dialysis that there are more options beyond the traditional in-center, in-a-chair, 3 times a week system. Only 14% of patients on dialysis in the US are using at-home options, despite evidence showing that it may be a better option for some patients

starting home dialysis
Hi. I am 49 years old. I am getting the catheter put in my stomach in 2 weeks, so that I can do the home dialysis. Is it called PD? I forget what it's called. But it's the one I do when I'm sleeping. I feel like there is just no support or help to prepare for this. My insurance has some place

Transient treatment
Can anyone still get transient dialysis treatment? It's never been so hard. My wife has been on dialysis for 8 years, and when she started this journey, we were told travel was no problem. Yeah, right, those were the days. She can't visit her parents (live 5+ hrs away) for more than a day because

I have been in stage 4 with CKD for about 3 years. So far, my numbers are remaining stable...which I am grateful for. Not sure if I need to be on this site yet, but I have a few questions. Can anyone tell me the average time from CKD diagnosis to starting dialysis or signing up for a transplant? Thank

Health food and Supplements-Warning!!
I just wanted to pass on a danger of too many vitamins, etc. My brother always worked out and took about 40 supplements a day as well as avoiding sugar, alcohol and anything that remotely seemed unhealthy. He is 3 1/2 years younger than me. All those supplements put him in Renal failure and on Dialysis

Sadly My Partner Lost the Fight
I have watched this amazing group for many years and I have contributed from time to time , but usually to agree with the brilliant advice and suggestions that have already been posted. My partner of 30 years, Mr B (that's what our friends call him because we are both Andy), was diagnosed with NAFLD

Need reassurance for upcoming fistula surgery
Hi! I am in CKD stage 5 and my last GFR was 13. Other than anemia, which I’ve been getting EPO injections and IV Iron for the past 1.5 years, and metabolic acidosis, I feel okay. My other electrolytes have been in the normal range so far. I am scheduled to get a Brachial Basilic fistula in my upper

Does anyone take this supplement?
I have been doing a lot of research on how to fix cramping. Let me first say, no pickle juice does not work. I also do not have fluid taken off during dialysis. I add 400ml of saline each treatment. I also have no fluid restrictions and so I do drink a lot of water. And none of my mineral labs indicate

Adequacy collection test to see how well your dialysis prescription is working
My adequacy last time was 2.1 I know it needs to be 1.7 or above. I do PD manually. Just wanting to know what is a good number and how often you do the adequacy test Thank you

Urination and anxiety
Hi EveryoneI'm having real anxiety about my dialysis sessions. Warning TMI 😳😳 Recently I have been having issues, when I go to the toilet. I thought it was a UTI but nothing showed up in tests. My GP believes it's due to lack of oestrogen. I am now on Gina an OTC oestrogen medication since last Saturday

I'm desperately in need of help for my mum.
My mum is 89 on chemo, plus she has dialysis 3 times a week. She's also got AF and leg ulcers. She's been on pramiproxal for years and still suffers with RSL. The GP took her off that and put her on quinine but this doesn't do anything for it. They now want to take her off quinine due to the kidney
